Things that randomly occur to me while I'm driving

Y'know what? Forget Baby Mozart and Baby Bach...I betcha I could make a killing from parents who can't stand classical music. Personally, I don't mind it, but I would love some other options. When I have kids, I'm going to get someone who knows what they're doing to lay a different music track over the visuals for the Baby Mozart stuff. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, it's basically a bunch of video clips of things that are interesting to babies and toddlers, and which stimulate brain development. The soundtrack is Bach or Mozart (maybe some others? Baby Beethoven?) which is supposed to also stimulate brains. I propose that other music is just as complex for babies and can do the same thing in stimulation.

Therefore, I shall unveil my greatest invention ever... Baby Pink Floyd, followed closely by Baby Rush and Baby Beatles. I mean, not only is it complex musical notations, it also stimulates language development and an appreciation for a different form of classical music...classic rock. Who's with me?!

(And this is why I should be getting more sleep and less sugar. Damn you, banana bread with chocolate chips!)

Meta-blog

Anyone going to try this?

So, I'm thinking about an Easter present for myself...a domain of my own, and WordPress or Moveable Type to blog with. I don't like Haloscan "archiving" my comments, and I'd really like a real live domain. I don't know. I kind of like having my Blogger dashboard...

*ponders, as only Pinky can*

I present to you...

...A QUIZ! (because I'm tired and angry and feel like crap [having a career issue])

I am a d20

Take the quiz at dicepool.com

This survey is completely scientific. Despite the mind-boggling complexity of mankind, the billions of distinctly different personalities found on Earth can easily be divided into seven simple categories that correspond to the five Platonic solids, a pseudo polyhedron, and whatever the hell a d100 is. The results of this quiz should be considered not only meaningful but also infallible, and pertinent to your success as a fully realized individual. If you feel the results of this examination do not match your perceived personality, you should take whatever drastic measures are needed to cram your superego back into proper alignment, as described by the quiz results.

And if you believe that, we have some really great critical-hit insurance to sell you.

Bleah.

Time for me to go to the doctor's. There's nothing specifically wrong, but I'm so exhausted all the time, and so unbelieveably unmotivated to do anything, including going to visit Dave a lot of the time. *sigh* It feels silly to go to the doctor for something without many symptoms. :(

Off to a PDP (teacher training) meeting this morning. I'm finding it hard to work up any enthusiasm about it. Or anything lately. Except for orange juice. I really really like my orange juice. Which we're currently out of. Bother.

My CD-ROM is now working (YAY! to Kit for bringing it over, and to Dave for installing it!) so I can continue to fill my Rio with musical goodness. :D

Incidentally, I need to hold another party in March. Is anyone interested? (pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease!!!)

o/~ Alll byyyyy myselllllf... o/~

Dave's taking off to Tacoma for the weekend for an Ultimate Frisbee tourney, so I'm flying solo this weekend. Anyone need a wingman? I'm good at that. :)

In other news, I need to pick classes because (GASP) I'm taking classes this summer. Hehe. I helped out Kit last night on her essay...I don't miss THAT part. So this weekend I'll be researching classes and registering on Monday (if I get my deposit in time...which I won't, so I'll be registering a couple days after that.) :)

FEESHIE FUD!!

Maybe it's all the painting of the Fineas. Maybe it's seeing him float around all day. Maybe it's the chopsticks I'm currently wearing to pin my hair back. Maybe it's because I had karate today... but HOLY CRAP! I am craving sushi in the WORST way!!!

Not shameless, but still a plug.

A woman named Anika Stafford just sent out an email plugging her book. It sounded awesome enough that I'll be ordering a copy, and I thought I'd pass on the information to those who might be interested. It's a book of children's stories with a pagan and queer theme. Each story corresponds with one of the pagan holidays. So there you go. Support a local, queer, pagan children's author today!

"Aisha's Moonlit Walk: Stories and Celebrations for the Pagan Year"

*peers through the screen*

Hey! *tap tap* I'm getting over 250 hits a week. Who ARE all you people?! I know I only count for about twenty hits a week, and I only know of about ten people who read this site, so what's with the numbers?

Huhhhhh?

Woman's Day

Women's Day? Womyn's Day? Bah. Whatever...it's all good.

So last night I had a meltdown. I had stayed up ridiculously late reading a new blog (VeryMom, if you're interested) and rereading the archives from another blog (la petite banane), even though I was exhausted. Stupid of me...especially since I'd stayed home from hanging out with Dave in order to get to bed early. I got to bed, wrote in my dead-tree journal and lay awake until nearly four, hatred churning through me for wasting nearly six hours that I should have been sleeping, working on the business, exercising, cleaning or cleaning. I also had the joy of the worst case of baby fever that I've had in months. Grrrr.

I finally fell asleep and woke up with a crick in my neck, a headache from the crick and still feeling like crap. I considered doing yoga, getting up or taking a shower, and promptly went back to sleep.

So yeah. I'm kind of grumpy. I considered phoning several different people, but I didn't feel comfortable calling and waking up their entire house...either that or I knew that they needed sleep for various reasons and "I'm feeling sad" just didn't cut it for me to disturb them.

On the plus side, this is one of the few major meltdowns I've had in the last six months. A few years ago I was having at least one a week. Progress...

*streeeetch*

I'm tired. I just did thirty minutes of what was billed as "yoga for energy". How evil. I'm still so pleased about the party last night. *does a happy dance*

Tonight is the 10th anniversary of two friends of Dave's and mine. I'm impressed. I barely remember what I was doing ten years ago, and here they are in a stable relationship from all the way back then. :)

Ok, I'm pretty much finished here. I need to get ready to go out and drop off orders to various areas. Yay! Money!

And I'm back.

This evening, I spent four hours in the company of ten fabulous women doing my first party. I loved it. It was like being on stage for three hours. I think I'll start a stand up routine. It was just phenomenal. Of course, I'm currently crashing really hard right now (so glad I didn't take them up on their offer of a glass of wine). I was ridiculously nervous, since it was my first party, but I did great. And my totals show that I did great. Can we say $700 party, everyone?! Oh yeah. :D

I think that I might quit now, because I don't know if I can top this party for the sheer amazing fun of it. And the money. Mustn't forget the money.

I'm pretty much in awe of myself right now. Not only can I paint, but I can sell sex toys too. :D

Quizzes

You Are 25 Years Old

25

Under 12: You are a kid at heart. You still have an optimistic life view - and you look at the world with awe.

13-19: You are a teenager at heart. You question authority and are still trying to find your place in this world.

20-29: You are a twentysomething at heart. You feel excited about what's to come... love, work, and new experiences.

30-39: You are a thirtysomething at heart. You've had a taste of success and true love, but you want more!

40+: You are a mature adult. You've been through most of the ups and downs of life already. Now you get to sit back and relax.

You Are 25% Left Brained, 75% Right Brained

The left side of your brain controls verbal ability, attention to detail, and reasoning.

Left brained people are good at communication and persuading others.

If you're left brained, you are likely good at math and logic.

Your left brain prefers dogs, reading, and quiet.

The right side of your brain is all about creativity and flexibility.

Daring and intuitive, right brained people see the world in their unique way.

If you're right brained, you likely have a talent for creative writing and art.

Your right brain prefers day dreaming, philosophy, and sports.

You Know You're Addicted to Alias When...

At every fast food joint you go to, you order "the special, no pickles" regardless of the fact that you LIKE pickles.

You believe wearing a colorful wig and tight clothing can help you get away with anything.

You check the sides of old book pages for Russian characters.

Every time you see a black Mercedes, it reminds you of Sark.

You notice every Ford Focus on the road.

You use the phrase "There are just so many problems with this..." at every possible opportunity.

You have suspicions that your spouse may actually be a double.

Your non- Alias obsessed friends (like you have any of those left! Hah!) refuse to talk to you about Italians, prophecies, pickles, wigs, parent/daughter relationships, spies or anything else that might lead to a discussion about Alias.

You actually BUY a blue Ford Focus. (With gold rims, of course)

You wonder if Sark actually could be Irina's son.

You develop opinions and theories about this and other unanswered facets of the show, and spend a large amount of time formulating arguments for both sides of the debate...

The main question you ask yourself shopping is "Would Sydney wear something like this?"

You have seen every episode. Ever. More than 5 times a piece.

You went to see Daredevil just for Jennifer Garner.

You flip out when you see Michael Vartan in One Hour Photo married to someone else.

The mention of weddings, rings, or two years just gets you incredibly ticked off.

After getting a bad grade on a paper you tell your friend about your professor saying "legally he's right, ethically he's an ass."

If the topic of TV shows comes up, you automatically ask the person "Do you watch Alias?" and if they say they've never heard of it... you immediately end the conversation.

You hear the songs played in the show.. and you instinctively listen for the lines of the characters.. and know precisely when their lines occurred in the song.

Your history teacher mentions something about the KGB.. and you suddenly think "Irina?"

You have a codename that people actually call you by.

You think having no first name is a perfectly acceptable thing.

Old Asian men in wheelchairs creep you out.

You will never view epoxy in the same way again.

You find yourself trying to find good, compelling reasons to sway your significant other that your next child/pet should be named "Irina" or "Sydney."

You feel aggravated and insulted when you watch the episode of "Frasier" where Victor Garber plays Dr. Crane's British butler. ("Years of agent training and experience, wasted...")

You feel a strange urge to bite Mike Tyson's ear off every time you think of "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Whenever you hear a truly interesting song, you immediately think of how that song would fit into a scene from Alias.

You find yourself criticizing the REAL CIA based solely on your knowledge of Alias.

You think Jerry Springer's guests have boring, uncomplicated family/friend relationships and easy, simple-to-fix personal problems.

You become incredibly irritated when people say, "That girl Sydney, doesn't she really report to someone else?" and can tell them exactly how many episodes behind the times they are.

You begin fantasizing about planting listening devices on your significant other's work clothes, just to see if you can find anything exciting/spy-worthy.

You know what J/I, S/V, S/W, Sarkney, Slark, slash, and shipper are, and have opinions on all of them.

Every time you hear the Nokia ringtone, you get excited even though there's no way it could be Vaughn.

You look for air vents you could crawl into incase of an emergency.

On Monday morning instead of saying "hello" to your friend you just say "Did you SEE VAUGHN'S BOXERS???"

The only people you have on your AIM buddy list are people you've met through Alias

When you begin to doze off in history class and only snap back to attention when the teacher uses the words "Alliance" or "Covenant."

You record every episode, then go out and buy the DVDs as well.

You dream about Irina Derevko at least once a week.

Sweiss does not sound like a candy bar to you

You assume that anyone who wears dark eyeliner is evil.

You meet a nice person and immediately become suspicious of their motives.

You constantly try to figure out ways to get Jack and Irina back together.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends who are addicted to Alias.

*knocks on wood*

So far, after a week of crazy tutoring schedule, I've managed to keep myself going... I've been a little late once in a while, but nothing major. I'm pleased with myself.

So, for anyone who happened to see Dave's post about Victoria, this won't come as any surprise. For everyone else...

We went out to Victoria because of a potential job offer that he had received, with the caveat that he'd need to move out there. It turned out that it was going to be ridiculously rushed (he heard about the job on Monday, they wanted him by the following Monday) so he (we?) aren't going to be moving to Victoria in the near future. We're not looking to move, but we aren't completely ruling it out either.

Ok, I think that just about covers it.

"Suddenly I'm a refreshing mint flavour"

(Two KarinPoints[tm] for anyone to understand and comment the reference.)

Why one should always check the pockets of pants, even when one is convinced that there's nothing in said pants. I apparently left in my jeans a little pot of peppermint lip balm that I got in Victoria. Now I have a little metal pot, which used to contain peppermint lip balm, and a refreshing mint scent on my load of laundry. *grumble* So far I haven't found a single clump of lip balm anywhere...with luck it dispersed evenly throughout the load.

In other news...I believe one of my students has a crush on me...or else he really likes cookies. (I'm thinking it's the second) I gave him some cookies for Christmas, and his mom told me today that they went with him when he was in Europe with the family last month. *giggle* We had been having a really crappy lesson today...he was giving me some pretty major attitude, and having minor little meltdowns every ten minutes or so, and generally acting like a pain. I mentioned making him some new cookies so he didn't have to keep the ones I'd given him earlier (like two months ago) and he lit right up, paying close attention and everything.. Too bad I didn't mention that at the beginning of the lesson instead of right near the end. I could've saved myself 45 minutes of grief. :P

Folowing the crowd...

Donna and Dev did the quiz, so here's mine. I think that we need to get some guys taking this quiz...whatchoo think, ladies? :)

You're femme. No one's ever called you 'Princess,'
but no one's ever confused you with a guy,
either. You attract both men and women. You're
just as comfortable in heels and cosmetics as
you are in jeans and a t-shirt. You like fancy
things, but you don't live for them. You'd
prefer not having to fix things if there's
someone else around who could do it, but you're
not above lifting a screw driver if you have
to.

What is your Dyke Rating?

Well, the keyboard has spontaneously started working again. This is good. I was starting to break out in hives due to lack of email access.

*grumble*

My computer is acting up. When I type, it doesn't recognize that there is typing going on. It's very frustrating.

Currently I am eating boiled spinach with melted garlic butter on it. It's quite yummy. I haven't had boiled spinach since I was a kid, and weirdly enjoyed it then as well. I decided that I should probably have more iron in my diet, and since I'm not a fan of liver and I don't eat much red meat anymore, I figured I should get some veggies. Spinach seems to be ridiculously high in iron, so here we are. I've been close to anemic before...sometimes when I go to donate blood I'm almost turned away because there just isn't enough iron. So I'm going to start eating raisins and spinach and steak (when it's available). With any luck, this will also kick start my body. I've been significantly less than energetic over the last several months, so I'm hoping... I've started taking a multi-vitamin (bright neon yellow pee!!), dried lychee fruits, and I'm maintaining my vitamin C regime every day. So far, no change, except the neon yellow.

Now the question is...does talking about my bottom functions mean that I'm going to get more hits? I mean, look at how much Dooce talks about poop...

Ow ow ow ow ow ow ow. Ow.

I gots CRRRRAAAMMMMMPSSSSSSSSSS!!!! MuthaFSCKER they hurt.

BIG GIANT EDIT

Hey. I had it brought to my attention (via a frantic phone call this morning) that I was unclear in the post two below this one. All of the self destructive "diet" stuff that I'd been doing was at least three years ago...probably closer to five. I can't completely remember, but it certainly was not within the last two years. Ok. Sorry about the confusion. :D

Changed my whine...I mean mind.

I was going to whine about money, but then I thought about it a little bit. Yes, I am tearing through my savings faster than Taz goes through a table, but I don't have any debt, I'll be getting a hella good cheque for March from tutoring, and I simply haven't had a party yet, even though I've got one booked and I've had several orders from some simply LOVELY people. You know who you are, lovely people. :)

This semi-whine brought to you by the fact that I want a digital camera and have decided to be sensible and not get one this month. Or next month. Maybe April.

Food.

This started out as a quick reference thing so that I wouldn't have to go look up my weight, then it became an introspective post. Who knew?

I started doing Fitday in December 2002. My starting weight was 174.

In December 2003, I was at my lowest weight since high school, 153. (In grade twelve I was about 145 or so, eating junk food like crazy and not exercising. I want that metabolism back plz kthx.)

In December 2004, I was back up to 167, and this week I was at 163 for a couple days. Grrr.

Now, I've put on some muscle in those last two years, so I can't take it completely depressingly, but I need to make some changes. I've started making some really positive ones already...recommitting myself to karate is the big one. Last year I made a really great mental leap which involved me deciding/realizing that I didn't want to lose weight to look good. Instead, I wanted to lose weight so that I could run faster, have more endurance and more strength. This was a huge step for me because for a few months I was crash dieting (then gorging), making myself feel physically ill if I ate junk food, trying to vomit said junk food up and eventually I even tried using laxatives a few times (that ended after I barely managed to avoid an embarrassing incident in class).

Just ask Dave, I've got probably some of the worst eating habits known to man. I won't say that I'm hungry until I'm starving, then I won't shut up about it, and I'll eat whatever stuff is around. I've been known to fill up on peanut M&Ms while waiting for food to be ready and then not being hungry until midnight. When I was about fourteen, I forgot to eat for three days. My stomach has been fragile ever since I was a baby, and one would think that I would be used to the fact that I shouldn't be eating greasy food because it makes me queasy, or various other issues.

Anyway, I feel a lot better about myself. While I'm still very bad at remembering to eat, I tend to pick food that's at least marginally healthier for me (orange juice instead of pop, granola bars instead of chocolate bars, fruit instead of ice cream) and I'm more concious of exercising.

Ok, I'm done now.

Child of the '80s

Fast-rewind.com has many blurbs on movies from the 1980s.

"Surreal, life altering experiences"

We're back from Vancouver Island! I love it over there...such a great atmosphere and three witchy shops (that I know of) within five minutes walking distance of each other. *GLEE* Also, Victoria has many, many flowers in bloom. Good stuff, I say.

On a whim, I grabbed a sketch pad and my pencil case, on the off chance that I would like to do some drawing. Turns out that I did, and the fruits of my labour are posted in flickr at the bottom of the sidebar. I'm really pleased with how they turned out, considering that I haven't done any serious drawing for a year or so.

I also bought the most beautiful piece of fluorine (also known as "purple and green rock) that I've ever seen. I'll post pictures of it as soon as I get some together.

Road trip!

Tomorrow Dave and I are heading off to Victoria for the day. We don't plan on spending the night, so you all probably won't even notice that I'm gone. Just thought I'd mention it. It's not meant to be a fun trip, but screw dat! I'm goin' shopping!

I'm still sick so I hope that I enjoy it. :P

In other news...Keegan, you're a big dope. :) When you put the fishtank together you turned the cover upside down so I couldn't get at the handle to feed Fineas. (I was just going to mock her privately on MSN, but she wasn't online, so she gets the public mocking. MOCK!) He was annoyed too. He knew he was going to get fed, but was wondering "What the hell is taking you so long, HOOOMAN?"

Musings

Chatting with Jason, I came up with some of my best work in weeks. (yes I'm conceited. Deal. It's better than I normally am.)

"Blogs all start bare, just like us humans do at birth."

So do journals, something which I'm currently enjoying. I keep a dead tree format journal, full of the stuff that's too private to stick up here...or else stuff that I don't think anyone would be interested in reading. Either way.

What the hell did I come on here to write about?

Um...I'm getting a fish. Keegan's adopting out her Siamese fighting fish and it's going to be by the computer. I have the most deep set eyes of anyone I know. I'm still coughing and probably contagious. eooowwowwwowooooooo...I am posting from the depths of NOTHINGNESS, if you believe what my webcam shows. I have no backgrounds...very bizarre.

Oh yes. I remember now. I switched students with someone, and I'm taking on a temporary student for a month (that's four students) and I might be taking on a permanent student. (that's five for the month) Much money, much confusion with my schedule, yeah. So expect me to post once or twice with "ARGH! I forgot I was tutoring tonight!!" every week for a month or so. *grumble*

However, there will be money.

Homer: "Awww, a twenty dollar bill? I wanted that peanut!"
Homer's Brain: "Money can buy MANY peanuts."
Homer: "Ooh! Tell me more!"
Homer's Brain: "Money can be exchanged for goods and services."

Yay! I have my fish now. And it's right next to my computer, so there will be occasional (frequent) pictures of it. :)

Monday, February 21, 2005

yummm...

I am sitting here eating what are probably the best mashed potatoes I've ever eaten in my life. They're like twice baked potatoes, with garlic butter, cheddar cheese and ham all mixed up in them. WOW. Thanks, Mom!

My brother would like to be famous, please.

In that regard, I would ask you to direct your attention to the flickr photos on the bottom of the sidebar. Please feel free to comment.

I love: that Rob lets me post pictures of him.

Sunday, February 20, 2005

Whoa...two firsts.

First the First: I gave my mom the address to Random Synapses today. *waves* Hi Mom! Feel free to comment.

First the Second: Someone (Hi Jason!) contacted me via ICQ to tell me they liked the blog and found it exceedingly entertaining! (His words, not mine.) I am pleased. And starting to get arrogant. Heheh.

Now I just need some hate mail like dooce, or pretty much any other big name, and I'll definitely feel like I've arrived. Maybe I should start some inflammatory posts. Ummmmm...

...

...

Yeah, I got nothing. Damn me and my lack of controversial topics. I have no children, so I can't post about child rearing. Ooh. I know. I have Canadian spelling! Ok, neighbours? :)

ugh.

I'm miserable. I'm sick. :( Bleah.

I love: Bill's latest post

At least no strange men knocked on my window this time.

I got home from Dave's, turned on my dome light to do my mileage and somehow managed to drop my keys on the floor. The one time that I don't use the click-y remote control dealie, and I lock my keys in the car. No problem! I'm at home. We've got a spare key. Which decides not to work. Huh. Ok, well I'll call BCAA. At least I'm at home. I'm chillin' at the computer, pizza in the microwave, drinkin' a Bud...well, actually it's a Molson's, but who's keeping track, huh? So I've got 45-60 minutes to kill before the person arrives to break into my car.

*twiddles thumbs*

I love: that I locked my keys in my car outside my own house.

Another new feature

I'm placing an order this weekend, so if anyone wants to add anything to it, if you let me know what you want via IM, email or phone I'll pay the shipping on it for you. :) Go to the Passion Parties website to look at the merchandise. (We have a Sex Swing! Whee!) By the way, I don't have a shopping cart on my page, so you will be transferred to a consultant who isn't me if you shop from there, plus you won't get any of the deals.

I think I'm going to start putting deals in the sidebar every so often. Hmm... (noooo, I'm not a money grubber...nope, not me.)

Deep breath...

It could have been worse. I was driving to tutor this morning, since both my kids had pro-D days, and I'm at a stoplight when there's a knock on my window. Whoa. Uh, hi? Can I help you? It turns out that my rear driver's tire is almost flat. Grrr. So this amazingly nice guy pumps up my tire with a cigarette lighter pump that he has in his car, which gets me to the garage. I was worried that it would be something like "Ok, you've got a gash in your tire, which means that you'll need to get all of them replaced. $600 please." Fortunately, it was just a nail and they patched it for under $30. Whew. As I was pulling out of the parking lot, there's another knock on my window. One of the guys from the tire place was holding my wallet that I'd left on the counter. Whoops.

I've got to stop doing things that make strange men knock on my car window.

I love: that my tire isn't going to cost me a MEEEELION dollars.

Of brownies and aging poets

I was soooo good...not eating any of the baking that my mother has been doing post-Christmas. But then she made brownies. With huge chocolate chips in them. Oh dear. I ate just a nibble...and I think I may have a problem now. One involving potential 3 am brownie raids.

I bought my first Leonard Cohen CD today *pictures Justy rolling his eyes* "I'm Your Man" which contains one of my favourite songs of all time, "Everybody Knows". Good stuff. It is currently in my car CD player while the "Phantom of the Opera" CD is in the Leonard Cohen case. Maybe I'll get some new songs stuck in my head.

I've decided to add a new feature for a little while, at least. Every time I post, I must write something that I love about the day. Ta da!

I love: the fact that Dave lets me work on business related stuff for an two three hours in the first time that I've gotten to see him in a non-working capacity this week.

YAHOO!!

*does a happy dance* I booked a party! I booked a party! Boo-ya!

This Post is Certified "Spoiler-Free"

Last night I finished reading the last book of Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series. Hffffuuuughawaaaaaaaaaaaaa! It was so good. The ending, while unexpected, seemed completely inevitable based on the rest of the series.

Is that obscure enough for you, Keegan? No spoilers here! :)

I fell asleep thinking of the ending and it was the first thing I thought of after I woke up. (ok, third actually, but "What the hell time is it" and "Wasn't my alarm supposed to go off?" are pretty standard for me so I don't count them.)

Ok, that's it. I have to go do stuff for the business now. Like...get all the stuff out of my car that is still in there from yesterday that I did not have the energy to move yesterday. And follow up on leads! Woo!!!

Tuesday, February 15, 2005

I'm soooo tired.

Woo. I wound up sleeping only around 2 hours last night. :p I was up at the university for about nine hours and got about 18 party leads, and a half dozen consultant leads. I'm pleased with this.

Now I tutor for an hour and a half and then go home and crash completely out.

Thank you Keegan and Dave for all your help today. Could NOT have done it without you. And thank you to the anonymous guy at the university who helped me get the rest of my stuff into my car when I was getting frustrated with my inability to move everything all at once.

*looks around warily and crosses fingers*

Ok, I think it's all done and put away in boxes. *shakes fist* I was JOKING about doing this until 4 am, dammit!

That's it then. I won't know if I'm missing anything until I get up there. Mental note...move the mannequin (yes, I have a mannequin. Doesn't everyone?) so that I'll trip over instead of forgetting it. Ideal world: I won't do either, but since I'm getting up in about three hours...well...we just don't know, do we?

Plus side of doing all this...I won't have to do NEARLY as much prep work next time.

*checks suspiciously for spy cameras*

Nope, no new ones...just the ones left here from earlier. How did the spammers know that I needed new ink for my printer?

Ok, weak...but I'm tired and it's late and I'm STILL PRINTING STUFF FOR TOMORROW.

Grrr... I'll update tomorrow night. Freaking out slightly...more worried about tutoring. I don't have books for tomorrow night, nor do I know what lesson I'm supposed to be teaching. Perhaps I will cancel tutoring and stay on the mountain for an extra hour or two to catch late afternoon students. Hmmm...that sounds like a plan to me. Then I don't have to leave at 3. Hmmm...hmmm...

Freaking completely out

Yikes! Less than twelve hours until I'm up at SFU to do my thang. (please, someone come visit me... it's going to be a long day) I've got Keegan and Dave who will be stopping by to let me get food and go to the bathroom, but other than that... *eep* I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff, and I'm nervous... even though I probably don't need to be.

And I'm getting sick. Must remember to pack tissue and various cold medications.

I would just like to go on record that Dave is the AWESOME. He single handedly cut out over 500 business cards for me... 300 of them just tonight. He's also designed my business cards, information gathering cards and stickers. (also, he is hot. :D ) I'm so lucky!

Happy V-day to everyone...or anti-V-Day if that's what you're doing.

The post in which I talk about being a witch.

This post is basically a comment I left over at trollzor. He was talking about one of my personal pet peeves, the person who has seen one movie or read one novel and suddenly has become an expert on Wicca or a varient of the pagan religions. (I actually was one of these at one time, when I was about 12. Thank ALL the spirits that only my friends saw it. Yeesh. I'm still embarrassed about it.) Luckily the situation that he describes never came up.

As a (one might say “sane” [ie: not someone who thinks they can light crystals with their minds]) witch, I go to the hospital on a...well, I wouldn’t say REGULAR basis…fortunately I’m not that accident prone, but I definitely get my yearly pap smear done, I get flu shots and anti-biotics and if someone I know slipped and smoked his/her head on the floor, you can be damned sure I’d be standing back and letting the professionals take care of things. However, I also take preventative herbs, or herb derivatives, and I try to prevent unhealth by mind over matter. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t, but I feel mentally healthier a lot of the time. Now, when it comes to medicine, *I* believe that if the “Ancients” had known about antibiotics etc, you’d better believe they would have used them. And witches/healers/shamans weren’t just on the mental/spiritual side of things. They also set broken bones and bashed heads. They didn’t try to stop someone from bleeding by using their minds…they tried to stop infection by using their minds, but only because they didn’t know what it was.

Hoo… Long comment. I guess what I’m really trying to say is, I’m sorry about the fluffy bunnies. Please don’t burn us at the stake.

Something I forgot to add. Magic to me is seeing a baby grow up and learn, seeing crocuses come up every spring, looking at how a seed "knows" what it's supposed to turn into and really amazing sex. It's all a question of energy. I choose to see this stuff more spiritually than scientifically, and more artistically than analytically. I don't see anything wrong with seeing it either way.

Ok, I'm done. Wow. Did anyone actually read to the end of this? Hehe.

Yay! Shopping!

I went downtown yesterday with Warrick, a fabulously gay friend who'd never been to Davie Street before. It was awesome. We made some great purchases, including some stuff for the business for me and a pair of phenomenal pants by Priapus. They're a subtle green plaid. If plaid can ever be described as subtle. Now I own gay men's pants. I'm pleased. Warrick has dubbed them my bootie pants (I've almost said/typed boot panties like three times today). He got some PVC stuff from Love's Touch for Sin City and looks spectacular. His sister commented that he looks like a gay Darth Vader. :D

We also hit Chinatown where I scored some dried lychee (tastes like bland dried cranberries, good for the kidneys and the eyes) and Tiger Balm, plus a bamboo rake for my mini Zen Garden that I haven't built yet. I also got a nunchuck (google also recognizes nunchuk, nunchaku (plural, I think) and nanchuck)

BTW, I've got a table up at SFU in the Academic Quadrangle on Tuesday the 15th, near the Audio Visual room. Come by and say hello if you're going to be around. Can't miss me. I'll be the one in the corset, surrounded by sex toys. Kind of.

Ooh..

I want pasta. Specifically, I want some form of stuffed pasta, like tortellini, with garlic butter melted on it. I don't think we have stuffed pasta, but we've got loads of dry spaghetti and garlic butter. Hmmm...methinks a trip to the kitchen is in order.

I swam 400 m today. :D

No pain, no gain?

*ouch* My legs have almost stopped hurting from karate on Saturday, but last night I went swimming... 600 meters, go me!...and now my shoulders and arms hurt. I'm going to try and go swimming again tonight. I've started to clarify my goals and what I want in my life. I'm really excited. I want to be physically in awesome shape...as in "run a triathalon" awesome shape. So, now I need to start riding my bike, running and swimming as well as training in karate. In that news, I've rediscovered my ambition there. More as it develops.

Now, I must go and fax things to Calgary.

Ta da!

Look up! No, not that far...eyes on the screen. Notice anything different... (like a huge pink banner that flashes)

Hmm...that one might be a little too flashy. Might go with the more subtle roses one.

Anyway, the important thing is that I've got my Passion Parties website up. :D It's currently very basic, but soon it will be more! Oh yes. It WILL be more. MUAHAHAHA. (sorry. I'm tired...been staring at a screen for the last several hours playing with Passion Parties stuff)

Turning over a new leaf?

Maybe it's just me, but I find it so amazing when I decide on a course of action and then actually follow through on it. I tend to not do that, so I'm all excited about this. It's amazing. I think I'm probably busier than I was a couple of weeks ago, but I'm SCHEDULING! And even more importantly, KEEPING THE SCHEDULE!

I'm discovering the joys of lists...to do lists, shopping lists, budgets, schedules and all that. I'm learning how to budget my time, factoring in time spent getting from one place to another. I'm also learning how to find time where I was wasting it before (webcomics and blog reading takes me roughly half an hour each time I do it, putting stuff away while I'm holding it means I don't have to put it away later, after digging through it to find what I was looking for earlier, etc)

Conversely, I'm also learning that things I dread don't take nearly as long to do as I thought they would...and that music makes things go faster all the time. I don't put off cleaning out a box of stuff. Instead, I do it quickly so I don't have ten boxes to do in a week. Making my bed takes less than a minute. Putting away clothes from my basket (one load of laundry) takes less than five minutes. Gathering up dirty laundry (or better yet, not chucking it on the floor) takes less than a minute. Making up a jug of orange juice instead of drinking Coke takes about a minute, and that includes washing the jug from the last batch.

I'm feeling good about myself, and about my current space. It's slowly being reclaimed and I'm slowly becoming successful personally and professionally.

Grr. Stupid alarm clock

I like to blame my own failings on inanimate objects. It's a dirty little secret I've got. Late? The alarm clock didn't go off. Translation: I forgot to set it, I set it for pm instead of am, I didn't turn it on or I turned the volume off. Late? There was loads of traffic/I hit every light. Translation: My alarm clock probably didn't go off. Refer to #1. Didn't get your phone call? My cell phone is whacked. Translation: I forgot to charge my battery, I forgot to turn on the ringer or I left it at home by mistake.

So what brought on this blog? My alarm clock didn't go off this afternoon after my nap.

Cleaning...

I should be tidying my room some more. With the insertion of a ton of crap from under the stairs and the upheaveal of all my stuff, it looks like a bomb went off in there. Because of the way the water was heading, there's a big spot on the floor where everything got moved from. Actually, there WAS a big spot on the floor, but it's currently being occupied by stuff for the business. My desk is buried under several pounds of "to be sorted", and the area in front of my desk is completely blocked by ten or fifteen boxes of stuff. I don't know what to do with it all!! However, I just spent the last hour and a half scrubbing my bathroom, so at least I did SOMEthing tonight. I want to put my desk together, but I'm tired, dammit. Maybe I'll knit for a while and see if I want to do some of that. I've got to put my fabulous new office supplies somewhere, after all.

That is, somewhere besides the formerly clean spot on the floor.

Have you ever had one of those nights...

...where things just "click"? Where you talk to people that you've known for a while, and discover that you've got more in common than you thought before...and that these people would make amazing friends outside of the context in which you have known them in?

So yeah. I had a pretty awesome night.

And I bought $100 worth of office supplies today. I should NOT be allowed near office supply stores by myself...however now I have a pretty green stapler. Ooh! And HANGING FOLDERS! And a CASH BOX! And, and...a "keep track of mileage and gas" book! AND CLIPBOARDS!!!! *claps hands in excitement which is probably not shared by the majority of her readers*

Ahem. I will be placing an order for my business around Tuesday. If anyone is interested in buying bath stuff (Valentine's is coming up, guys!), vibrators, lubes, lotions or various other creams, let me know and I can bring stuff to you to look at and smell and so on.

o/~ Is this...the Phantom...of the Operaaaaaa???? o/~

Saw Phantom of the Opera today with Kit. It's a damned good movie. I was expecting it to be, and it was far better than I'd expected. Now we've got the songs stuck deep deep DEEP in our brains. :D

Maybe Famous?

I was checking referrers today and noticed that I've been getting hits from Urban Vancouver. I had been before too, but just today I noticed that I had my own XML site feed. Wow. I feel all warm and squishy. Maybe I should start going to Vancouver Blogger meetups since I'm getting famous.

Must remember to bring shades. You know, so the paparazzi don't take incriminating photos. :)

So that's it, then.

Today was my last day at the craft store. Because the schedule wasn't up until this afternoon, I didn't realize it until three hours before my shift ended. I went back and forth between euphoria and "OhmyGodwhathaveIdone?" for about ten seconds, then the euphoria won out for the rest of the shift. :D

Now I can focus on my home parties business. Anyone want to host a party? Buy some stuff without hosting a party? Let me know!

Quick notes before I dash off to work.

I've got fabulous new business cards, thanks to the fabulous Dave. I love my cards.

On Alias last night, the two main characters went undercover as married couple Karin and Dave. Hehe. (ok, probably it was Karen with an E, but I saw no passport or any documentation with the name on it...therefore I will continue to believe that it was spelled the same way as mine.)

One other thing that I can't remember. Oh well. I'm sure you will hear of it in excruciating detail later.

Yays and boos.

Yay! My package arrived.
Boo! I can't get it until after tutoring.
Boo! My dad had to pay $60 GST/PST on it...which I already paid. >:( Will have to talk to them about this.

Yay...or boo? My dad knows about this. He didn't seem upset, but he requested that I pick it up after tutoring before I go out. Eep?

Tentative "yay"

It looks like the water's stopped. We had a guy come and clear out the sump pump line, and it seems that we might be finished. *wheeewwwww*

And my kit hasn't arrived yet. Bother.

***GLEE!!***

The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy movie is coming out May 6th.

*starts hunting for her towel*

Edit: I think it should've come out on April 2...you know... 4/2... but that's just me.

I told her

Everything seems to be ok. She's a little upset, but not freaking out. *hooooooo*

Is everyone having a bad week?

I know of several people who are having really shitty weeks... is this generalized, or am I just kind of noticing because I'm one of those people?

Timing.

My mom has known that I've got a blog for about a year now...so almost the whole time it's been active. Today and yesterday, she's been giving me a hard time about me not giving her the URL for it. Weird, huh?

The water's coming in faster. I was telling Dave today that it reminds me of a blackmailer (although I used different numbers in my conversation with him). Instead of asking for a million dollars and having his mark just give up, he (or she) asks for a manageable sum, thus the mark is constantly being drained and is constantly aware of the damage being done.

*hops onto the bandwagon with a resounding crash*

Beta testing Flickr. It's good stuff. Here's my photo gallery.

I meant to go to sleep several hours ago. I kept getting distracted... but now there are pictures! Of me and the flood!! Yay!

Ok, I'm going to bed now. My dad's home, so he can help with the water.

Friday, January 21, 2005

Free to good home...

...or mediocre home. Or any home, for that matter.

We've got about thirty 500mL Mason jars, lids and rings for canning fruit and vegetables. Anyone wants 'em, they're yours. For any friends, I'll even deliver them on a visit. Especially if you buy me a hot chocolate.

Things looking better?

Currently, the rain has stopped, which means that as soon as the last of the water already in the system works its way through our basement, we'll get a bit of a break. We've done over 200 gallons of water, by my exhausted estimate. It's supposed to rain REALLY hard over the weekend, but my father will be home, so that's another pair of hands to vacuum. Although, this means that I'll need to either sleep on the couch or somehow clear off my bed.

My back is killing me. I think I did something to it just now on my shift. :(

Water numbers update

We've emptied the big shop vac (60 L) 16 times in three or four days. That's about 900 L of water...or 240 Imperial gallons.

We fill the shop vac about every three hours now.

Wednesday, January 19, 2005

Why my boyfriend is the awesome.

(Geez, nothing like a crisis to get my ass posting, neh?) (Oh, and we've got about 115 gallons out now.)

He just sent me upstairs to rest and blog etc. while he does some magic stuff in the leaking closet involving duct tape and plastic wrap. Oh, and a hairdrier. He brought over two (much better!!) shop vacs and helped suck up a bunch of water, then took me out for dinner. I didn't enjoy it as much as I normally would have, since I was practically falling over, and each sip of my lemonade caused a minor flashback. "Augh! Water being sucked up through a tube away from the floor!" I kept looking at puddles on the ground in the parking lot and seriously...my hands itched to suck those babies up.

*blink* *blink* I. Am. So. Tired.

I want my daddy to come home from Mexico. :(

*cries*

We accidentally overfilled the shop vac and it sprayed several liters of water out all ove my bookshelf.

100+ gallons and counting.

Hey Internet...gimme a job.

So I arrived at work this morning. I had been told on the phone that the major reason that I couldn't just stay home was because I was going to be the only cashier all day besides the supervisor. Ok, fine. I can accept that particular answer.

However, one hour after I arrived, a second supervisor came on shift. Now there were three cashier-types. Umm...huh? THEN, another hour later, a second cashier arrived. WTF? THEN, another another hour later, a THIRD supervisor appeared. This means there are FIVE cashier-types, not the two I was led to believe.

So I handed in my letter of resignation. If I'm going to be flat out lied to, I want to make more than $8.75/hour.

*shakes fist*

Folks, a word of advice. Never be honest with your employer. Never say that you're calling in "flood", because they gots NO sympathy. Ironically, I started to feel like total crap about five minutes after I hung up with work. Argh.

The way I see it, I now have carte blanche to have an unbalanced till, and no ass-hat to be left unyelled back at. :D

Tuesday, January 18, 2005

*whoosh* goes the water.

We've sucked about 100 gallons of water out of our carpet over the last couple of days, and it's still coming in...faster than before.

There's a guy here trying to fix it...the water pressure pushed his industrial grade foam out of the cracks. He keeps looking at it and going, "I've never seen anything like this before." My mom keeps hearing "This is going to be really, really expensive."

Updates as they occur.

Update 8:55 pm: Ok, not 100 gallons. About 180 litres...which is um...180 divided by 4...only 45 gallons. Except that there's probably another 40 L or so in the shop vac again. My back is killing me.

Update 11:05 pm: Looks like the water's stopped coming in for now. Ye gods, what a day.

Update 11:29 pm: Spoke too soon. Since the water got stopped up in the hallway, it's now going under the stairs into the closet, along the cement floor much more quickly than on the carpet, and seeping through the wall that's 5 feet from my bedroom wall. Crap.

Update 12:44 am: Gawdammit. We've put up kitty litter barricades and the water just keeps finding new and innovative ways to circumvent our efforts. We've started making Maginot Line jokes. Flee!!

Update 3:00 am: I'm covered in clay from cleaning up the useless kitty litter. Water's going into another room. I'm exhausted. I've been vacuuming all night. (75 gallons)

Ugh...

I'm having trouble finding the right time to tell my mother about my new business venture. I decided to force the issue by having my kit sent to my house...which meant I'd have to tell her before it arrived.

Now our basement is leaking, so there's not a good time to tell her since she's freaking out about that right now. :(

Heeeeeelp....

Official Advertisement

As I briefly mentioned, I was thinking about becoming a home party consultant for lotions and potions (lubes and bath stuff etc.) as well as a tasteful selection of sex toys (not my first choice...I'd rather there was more with the leather and latex m'self). Last night I stepped off the pier into the water and now I'm starting to swim.

So, here's the deal. I now am officially a consultant. Go me!! Soooooo... Valentine's Day is coming up. Would anyone like to host a sex toy party? There's good hostess rewards and I'm a really fun speaker. Also, if you're considering becoming a consultant, you can talk to me about it as well. I do co-ed or all female (or all male, I suppose, but that's not usually the way it works) parties and my schedule is currently COMPLETELY EMPTY for the time slots that I'd be running parties. This will (hopefully) change as of tonight, since I've already got some party leads.

Sunday, January 16, 2005

Next time, I'm skipping the drama and going straight to the hot chocolate.

The fast version: Friendship saved. Ye gods, what a day.

I was totally messed up last night and "made" Dave drive me home and stay with me all night...which meant I didn't get much sleep. (not in that way. I don't sleep well when there's an extra body in the area.) We woke up early, several times, finally getting me out of bed around 1 or so (read: 2 or 2:30)...when we'd hoped to start getting stuff done earlier.

Here's our original hoped for schedule...
1130: Leave Coquitlam so I could pick up my car.
1200: Get my car in Burnaby so that I could run errands.
1230-4: Go to Best Buy (Coquitlam) to return stuff, get my car insured, iron my uniform.
430-630: karate
930: try to make friendship happen again.
later: sleep the sleep of the dead.

Here's what really happened...
1200: kind of wake up.
1230: totally not awake.
130: finally awake-ish
200: actually awake
300: pick up stuff from my car (car registration and stuff to return) in Burnaby and iron my uniform at Dave's. We leave in Dave's car because I'm still too messed up from last night's badness to drive.
330: back in Coquitlam to insure my car. It closes at 5, so I'm fine. But then... "What do you mean I need to get my car air-cared?!" AirCare also closes at 5. CRAP.
400: BACK in Burnaby to pick up my car to get it AirCared, in...you guessed it...COQUITLAM.
430: Finished AirCare, off to the insurance guys to get the insurance done. (incidentally, this guy was a saint. He gave me a sticker and told me to get the AirCare done and he'd do the money thing over the phone and I could come in on Monday to sign all the papers.)
445: We make it to the insurance place so that I can sign the papers (it was supposed to [and did] snow tonight, so Dave figured it'd be a good idea to have everything totally by the book.)
500: I'm not going to make it to karate. DAMMIT. Two weeks in a row.
530: We go to Best Buy. I was told that I had until the 15th to return stuff. Apparently it was the 10th. Today is the 15th. Crap. After a hassle, they told us that we couldn't have store credit, but we could exchange the merchandise for other merchandise, but we had to spend it all today. *rolls eyes* Okay... :p So I got some stuff for my Rio. YAY, STUFF!! And a bunch of other stuff. (I was returning a $115 item...so there was much stuff to be had.)

So, now Dave's out in Coquitlam. His car is in Burnaby. This was happening a lot today. To make a long story short (TOO LATE), we went back to his place and chilled out looking at sex toy companies to decide which (if any) I would become a consultant for.

Then I went and successfully mended fences with my friend. Over hot chocolate at Starbucks. GO TRY THEIR CRAZY NEW HOT CHOCOLATE. Get dipping cookies with it (two for each person) and water. Lots of water. Then wash it all down with regular hot chocolate, but get peppermint syrup in it. Holy. Crap. I'd never thought I could ever be chocolated out, especially from hot chocolates, but oh, my. I don't think I'll be able to have any chocolate for at LEAST...six hours or so. ;)

Ok, I'm tired. And I have a right to be. So there. :p And I just bashed my hand on the corner of my computer desk. Ouch.

A new experience

I think that tonight I may have destroyed one of my oldest friendships.

There's too much going on in my head right now. I feel oddly detatched from everything. I'm glad I don't have a bottle of something alcoholic in front of me right now because I would probably drain the whole thing.

Business Opportunity

Question for y'all. After going to the Everything to do With Sex Show last night, I came to the conclusion that I'd make a pretty kick-ass sex toy party representative. Anyone disagree with me? Anyone interested in booking a party? *looks in Donna's general direction*

For those of you who would rather not think of me and sex toys in the same universe, please pretend that the above several lines had to do with Dave and I going to see Elektra this evening. Ignore the critics...it's a good movie.

Ok, that's all. Comments in the comments section. You know how it works. ;)

unmotivation

I don't have much motivation to do anything these days. Several things I've been putting off involve me making money...so it's not like I don't have extrinsic motivation... but I just don't feel like doing anything. :p Dave posted about not being motivated as well. I guess it's a weather thing.

Although it's been sunny lately! Yay!

*rereads post* Ye gods. Could I BE any more boring? Uh...wait. Don't answer that unless it's a happy thought. :)

Sholy snit!

"It snows every winter in Vancouver, and every winter Vancouver is COMPLETELY SURPRISED by this."

Too true. Too true, I says.

This year, my dear papa is in Mexico (c'mon say it with me. MEHHHHEEEECO) and so I shoveled snow for the first time in a couple of years. Luckily it was fairly dry and powdery, so I got the (very steep) driveway cleared in about ten minutes, then did the steps, a path to the front door and the sidewalk in front of our house and our neighbour's house (they are also in Meheeeco.) in about another fifteen minutes. I got back to the driveway, and was horrified to see that it had almost a centimeter of snow on it. DAMMIT. Now I know how Sisyphus felt. Except that Sisyphus doesn't have a brother whose turn it is to shovel the driveway later tonight.
That's the same kind of hat I make!! Now I need to make me a red one!

Which Family Guy character are you?

This is a post for the person who complained that there was no post yet today.

I feel yucky in my tummy. And my throat. :(

Mushy

I'm sitting here blushing as Dave listens to the following song right now...

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and turn and dream
of what I need

[Chorus]

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder end rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

[Chorus]

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me

Through the wind end the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood

Yeah...mushy. Sorry.

Thinking:

I think my Weather Pixie is broken. I don't know too many people who voluntarily go out in -5 C weather in a turtleneck.

ARGH

Based on my knowledge of my car-phobia, and seeing the snow coming down like crazy for the last two hours, I made the decision that I wouldn't go to karate. I really didn't feel comfortable driving in those conditions. Now, I look outside, and it's cleared up with only a few flakes to be seen. DAMMIT! I'm so annoyed with myself. I was planning on training for the two hours that I would have been at karate, so I'll still do that.

I REALLY need to work on this "fear of the elements while driving" thing that I've got going on. :( I'm not impressed with myself at all right now.

So Dave and I stopped at a bookstore in Chilliwack on our way to Harrison Hot Springs. They had a lot of free things to pick up by the door, and one of them was How to be well-read: Fifty books you must be acquainted with to make the grade by Siri Agrell. Here they are for your benefit in no particular order.

Bold means I've read it, italics means I want to read it, underlined means I own it but haven't gotten around to it yet.

  1. The Tin Drum - Günter Grass, Germany

  2. Krapp's Last Tape - Samuel Beckett, Ireland

  3. The Stranger - Albert Camus, France

  4. Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad, England

  5. Inferno - Dante Alighieri, Italy
  6. Actually, I want to read the whole thing.

  7. Bleak House - Charles Dickens, England

  8. The Brothers Karamazov - Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Russia

  9. The Sound and the Fury - William Faulkner, United States

  10. Love in the Time of Cholera - Gabriel Garcia Márquez, Columbia
  11. I've read "1000 Years of Solitude"

  12. The Sun Also Rises - Ernest Hemingway, United States

  13. Dubliners - James Joyce, Ireland

  14. Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka, Bohemia

  15. The Time and the Place - Naguib Mahfouz, Egypt

  17. Beloved - Toni Morrison, United States

  18. 1984 - George Orwell, England

  19. Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie, India/Britain

  20. King Lear - William Shakespeare, England
  21. As an English major, perhaps I shouldn't come out of the closet here, but I HATESES Shakespeare. >:( I managed to go through an entire English degree and only have to read Romeo and Juliet (three times...once in high school, twice for classes) and MacBeth (high school)

  22. Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy, Russia

  23. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn - Mark Twain, United States

  24. Leaves of Grass - Walt Whitman, United States

  25. To the Lighthouse - Virginia Woolf, England

  26. The Red and the Black - Stendhal, France

  27. Lolita - Vladimir Nabokov, United States
  28. God, I wish I hadn't. What a horrible, horrible book. *shudder*

  29. The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald, United States

  30. The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger, United States

  31. Catch-22 - Joseph Heller, United States

  32. The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood, Canada
  33. It's so good. I love it. And not just because it's Canadian, or feminist, or science fiction-esque.

  34. On the Road - Jack Kerouac, United States

  35. The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath, United States

  36. The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck, United States
  37. I've read a bit of Steinbeck, and I have a book of his about King Arthur, but never read this one.

  38. To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee, United States

  39. Heartbreak House - George Bernard Shaw, Ireland

  40. The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde, Ireland

  44. The Awakening - Kate Chopin, United States

  45. The Color Purple - Alice Walker, United States

  46. One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest - Ken Kesey, United States

  47. Tropic of Cancer - Henry Miller, United States
  48. Tis supposed to be filthy. I'm interested. :)

  49. Naked Lunch - William S. Burroughs, United States

  50. Howl - Allen Ginsberg, United States

  51. The Waste Land - T.S. Eliot, England

  52. Gravity's Raindow - Thomas Pynchon, United States

  53. Slaughterhouse Five or the Children's Crusade - Kurt Vonnegut, United States

  54. Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen, England
  55. I've never had any urge to read Jane Austen. I probably should.

  56. Lord of the Flies - William Golding, England

  57. Don Quixote - Miguel de Cervantes, Spain

  58. Collected Poems - Robert Frost, United States
  59. Of course, I've read some of his stuff, but I really should read the rest. Is it a bad thing that sometimes I get Robert Frost and Robert Burns' poems mixed up? *blush*

  60. Barney's Version - Mordecai Richler, Canada

*haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate*

I had my rant all ready and then blogger fried it. EVEN MORE HATE!

I loathe TeenageGirls(tm). Understand first that I know several girls of teen age, and of course I was of the ages of 13-19 for pretty much seven years, so I'm not talking about teens in general. What I hate is the plastic, prissy, arrogant, obnoxious girls like the ones in Tim Hortons today who got the cashier to recite everything that he'd ever eaten there and then decide not to order.

While we're on the subject of hate, this is aimed towards the jackass who came into the store today, asked me about something, then interrupted me with "Bullshit!" Dude, go get a penis extension or something and don't irritate the cashier, mmmmkay?

Stolen from lots.

It's Delurking Day!

So if you read this site, even if you comment already, leave a comment! I wanna know who reads me. :)

Not a haircut entry...

...it's worse! It's a fingernail cut entry!

So, I bite my nails. I've been doing much better lately, and I haven't had either Ultimate (frisbees tend to snap fingernails like crazy) or karate (very very bad dojo ettiquette to have fingernails that might cut or snag someone...not to mention if they get snagged on the tatami. OUCH.) so I've actually had some. I needed to cut my nails today. Crazy.

*big stooopid grin*

Every time I think that I can't love my man any more, he goes out of his way to completely disprove me.

Happy Birthday Dave!!

And I should probably go to bed so that I can actually be conscious when I see you all day. :)

Whoa. All techie...

I fixed our internet. Not even the guy from Telus could do it. Of course, it was because there were hardware power difficulties...aka, someone knocked the power cord out of the router. *grumble*

However! *I* was the one who fixed it! Much proudness.

In other news...I started packing today. Well, I supposed it was yesterday, but whatever. I don't have an apartment yet, but I'm getting stuff organized that I won't need until I get into my new place. Current date appears to be March 1st, so I'll need to start looking...oooh... this week...

Of cramps and sleeplessness

Yesterday was spent recovering from a non-alcohol fueled New Years Eve. I managed to get Kit hooked on Alias, which we watched until 4 am or so then talked until 630. I slept until 1:30, then crashed again after lunch and more Alias from about 4-7:30. All this sleeping meant that I wouldn't get to sleep again until nearly 5:30 this morning. I only slept until noon, so hopefully I'll have my sleep schedule back on track for going back to work on Tuesday. One of the happy side effects of not knowing what time it was at any point was that I could go to the field with Dave at 9 pm to toss around his new discs that light up. Much fun with LEDs!

Part of the reason I couldn't sleep was a horrible pain in my left leg from my ankle to above my knee. I know that I'm supposed to ice horrible pains, but instead I used the Magic Bags that Jen, Dave's sister, got me for Christmas. Hey, it is FREEZING in my basement. My toes are still cold. Thanks Jen! They work awesome.

Ok, that's it. Except for the MP3 player update. Currently I have over 45 hours of music on it, and I've used less than 25% of the memory. I loves me my Rio.

My dad sent me this, and I thought it was amusing enough to post. Posted by Hello

Happy New Year.

I think one of the best things about this new year has already happened...I reconnected with my best friend like we hadn't since we were 11 or so...but it's even better now. :)

It can only get better from here.

PS look for the obligatory year in review post.

PPS due to the power of dooce, I'm waiting for my overload of celebrity to come to me from no name yet. ;)

Season's Greetings

I slept over at Kit's place last night...so it was fun...stayed up until 230 am talking and giggling...then had to get up grouchily to get driven back home at 8 am. Then I slept until noon.

Family is happy, I am happy, everyone is relatively healthy and I'm seriously unstressed. My dad is bringing me coffee made from his new coffee machine and I've already eaten a ridiculous amount of chocolate this morning.

NOW FOR THE OBLIGATORY LIST O' LOOT

My new apartment is going to be chock full of stuff. :) This year was The Christmas Of The Small Appliance. Kettle, iron, toaster, MICROWAVE, hand mixer, glass cookware, metal cookware... :D And a series of cookbooks from "The Best of Bridge", which means SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN WINGS!!!

Loads of chocolate (significantly less now than there was a couple hours ago), $100 cash, $100 gift certificate from Best Buy (glee! DVD's!!), storage cubes, a decorative plate with an American kestrel on it (my favourite type of bird), ground apricot kernels (which I identified immediately in their little ziplock baggie, completely freaking Kit out. LOL), a book by the founder of NaNoWriMo called "No Plot, No Problem"... *sigh* Soooo much. So thankful. :)

Now, it is time to go wrap presents for the family of the Dave. I couldn't wait to give Dave his present, so he got his last night. I'll let him tell you all about it. :)
