Ok, fine. I'll watch, but I'm still mad.

Sittin' here in my Canucks jersey, watching the game. They hooked me. I admit it. Not totally though...I was tutoring for the first half hour, and I ran down here to watch when I got home, but forgot to turn on the TV...but I get to watch the whole third period.

So, I went all girly today...I got my eyebrows waxed for convocation tomorrow. (aside: 9:15 tomorrow morning at SFU! Come if you want!) I figure there will be more pictures taken of me tomorrow than there will be until whenever my wedding is, so I might want to look purdy.

Also, remember that tomorrow night is my grad/bday dinner/karaoke ((AUGH!! Phoenix just scored!!)) and I'll be there at seven until late. Come by sometime for five minutes, or five hours...whatever you want. (((((WOOOOOOO NASLUND!!!!! 19 seconds later by number 19!!!!)))))))) Significant others and/or kids are welcome. I never sent out evites, but consider yourself invited if I know ya. Email me to tell me you're coming, and I'll tell you where we'll be. (Burnaby)

Update

School is good...very tiring. I have a headache most of the time, and this weekend was murder. Tired and dizzy. Bleh. I feel somewhat better though.

I'm wearing my new favourite sweater/top/thing. It's got thick horizontal stripes of light blue, medium blue and teal with a big...I think it's brown, but it might be purple stripe...right across the middle. It sounds pretty hideous but it's actually very pretty. I also have a "Neapoliton" sweater/top/thing in pink, white and light brown, a pair of brown cords and a brown skirt that my mom bought me for school. I'm all respectable looking!!

I'll be meeting my sponsor teachers tomorrow probably...which means I'll be wearing makeup tomorrow probably. Freaky weird...maybe I should practice tonight, it's been so long.

Some wonton soup is MUCH superior to other. Holy chemical processing, Batman. Speaking of Batman...I had a dream about him (Christian Bale one) last night. Speaking of dreams...I won't tell you about the Batman dream, but here's a different one.

Dreams involving pink or orange gerbera daisies being presented to small robot vacuums by large city destroying robots immediately before rushing off to destroy the city...those make me giggle when I wake up. They are much better than the recent dreams I've had of being in bed and waking up to find someone IN MY ROOM, STARING AT ME, then really for real waking up. Those dreams suck much. I've had them two nights running...and I disagree with them. No more such dreams I say.

And now I stop typing into my blog, and instead type into a word processing document...for LO, I must do a social studies lesson plan. By tomorrow night. *eep*

Oh, and I started knitting again. I am working on a hat. And I discovered today that I can walk and knit at the same time. I'm planning on knitting Jayne's hat from Firefly, because I have become moderately obsessed with Firefly. No, I haven't seen Serenity yet. Yes, I'm going to. Probably several times. It's going to be THAT GOOD.

right...lesson plan. then bed. i'm on it.

Owie.

My headache is finally going away, thanks to the curative powers of aromatherapy, wonton soup, various flavours of tea and vast quantities of Advil.

Note to self: nearly out of Advil...purchase more.

ANDRE MICHAUD???

For the two people who will know what I'm talking about above... ;)

So, I need a vote....who thinks I should do this?

A few days ago I saw a squirrel. There are many squirrels at school...some of whom don't like me. One charged down the sidewalk in my general direction on about the third day of class. :P This isn't about that squirrel though, or the one which I saw chew into a chestnut and rip a chunk out with its deceptively tiny teeth (although that one was on my mind).

I saw a squirrel burying an acorn. I've never been close to one during the fall before, so it was fascinating. It dug really damned fast for such a little guy, dropped the nut in the hole, covered it up with the dirt it had displaced, then it pushed a stick and a leaf over the spot and poinged away. I was tempted to dig it up, just to see what the squirrel would do, but I thought it would be mean, since the poor thing was probably on acorn 149340 out of 30930490 that it needed to gather.

Also I didn't really want to see the squirrel chew into my finger and rip a chunk out of it with its deceptively tiny teeth.

Preaching from my radio

A couple of days ago I was listening to the radio and there was a radio ad for Union Gospel Mission's "Feed the Hungry" campaign which ended with the voiceover saying "bless you" for helping, blah blah. Fine, no problem. But then the DJ came on and said, "And bless you for listening to JRFM. But something that's nearly as good as being blessed with eternal salvation is..." then he went on about prizes or something.

I was REALLY surprised to hear it...not offended, just surprised. Now I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks. :)

Discuss.

Birthday/Graduation Party Announcement

TO: Anyone I know in real life, or can be vouched for someone I know in real life. Also, significant others and kids are DEFINITELY welcome.

WHEN AND WHERE
Thursday October 6th
7-10, dinner in Burnaby at a restaurant/pub that has an all ages seating area.
10-??, we move over to the non-all ages section for karaoke. :D

Email or comment me for details on the venue. I don't want to use evite for some random reason that I can't think of (aka, I'm lazy) but I'll probably send out evites in the next couple days.

Sorry it's a Thursday night, but that's when karaoke is. :P Miss Manners says you shouldn't ever say anything about presents even when saying they aren't necessary, but I think that's silly. Presents aren't necessary...but if you feel like you need to, please donate some money either to the Red Cross, breast cancer research, the food bank or Children's Hospital. I really have plenty of everything that I need.

"How do you explain to the FAA that we had a rabbit strike at 1,800 feet?"

This has nothing to do with anything, but the end made me giggle, so I thought I'd pass it on.

Muahaha!!!

Or: how things are going right today

I'm getting laundry done so I'll have clean underwear and socks for the week.
I'm getting ridiculously ahead of the homework and readings I need to do for next week.
I FOUND MY TEXTBOOK!!! (it was in my laundry basket.)
I feel smokin' hot again.

*kicks the dirt and looks embarrassed*

So, after a good night's sleep and a long hot shower last night with Ravensbara essential oil diffusing through my bathroom (antiviral and antidepressant. Smells like orange...kinda) I feel much better than I did last night.

Why do people do this to themselves? Why can't we hear all the good stuff people say about us when we're in that funk? (BTW, thanks Bimkins for the chat last night...everything is helping now. And thanks dearheart for the comment. It made my day.)

By the way...I still love my eyes but now I recognize my cheekbones, my hands and fingers, my breasts, how my butt looks in some of the jeans Dave helped me pick out, the curve of my back, my sillhouette lit by candles, how my waist has been curving into an hourglass and the muscles of my calves. I'm still a collection of body parts, but at least I'm outnumbering the ones I hate.

I don't feel so good right now.

Let's see if writing this will be the nice cathartic even it should be.

Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and feel like vomiting. I see thin, pretty girls walk down the street and watch people watch them. I see beautiful women with a few, or significantly more than a few, extra pounds, and think they're fucking gorgeous. Why can't I think about myself that way? Why do I weigh myself frantically every morning, before shower, after brushing teeth, before drinking or eating, after going to the bathroom, before putting on deodorant but after brushing my hair? Why do I need to lose every ounce of peripheral weight before I can look at the numbers? Why did I PUNCH THE WALL IN MY BATHROOM five minutes ago because the scale said more than I think it should? (hand's fine...wall's fine, just so you know.)

Why do I eat something sweet or otherwise slightly off of nutritious and feel like a beached whale in my mind? Why did I drive most of the way home almost, or totally in tears because I can't stop thinking about that half a muffin I ate, or the two regular cokes I drank? Intellectually, I know I'm attractive...unless everyone's been lying to me. But that same wonderful intellect of mine partitions my body. I don't see my fantastic...

Jesus. I can tell I'm depressed when I can't think of a single body part I like. My eyes. I like my eyes. And that's good because they're not gonna get any thinner. I've got tears running down my face while I type this. It's times like this I'm so glad I'm not a famous blogger, because I'm so fragile right now I wouldn't hear any nice comments left. I'd just read the hate mail, and dehydrate myself so that the water weight doesn't show.

Sometimes when I'm in a good mood (that sounds so trite, but it's the best I can come up with right now), I'll look at myself and think I'm totally amazingly gorgeous. I've been "up" like that for the last few weeks, telling Dave that he's got a smokin' hot girlfriend. Right now, I don't even feel like a lukewarm girlfriend.

I'm trying to decide between several options right now. Sometimes (not for a long time now) when I'm feeling horrible inside, I hurt myself outside...nothing serious like sharp objects anymore (yay, five years now? Something like that), but I don't want to do that to myself any more because it makes me feel worse. Besides, I think punching the wall qualifies me for that and uses my quota up for a week, at least.

I could get very very drunk off of what I have in my liquor cabinet. Bad idea...when I'm depressed, the first thing I want to do is have a drink. Very bad precedent to set. Luckily, the anti-fat part of my brain reminds me of all the empty calories in alcohol.

So, I guess that leaves taking a very hot shower, hoping the steam will clear out my sinuses, crying a bit more because I'm naked and feeling very gross about my body and going to bed and hoping that it's sunny tomorrow because if it's rainy, I don't know how well I'll deal with it.

So to recap. I'm a whiny little drama queen who doesn't have anything to complain about, so I make a bunch of stuff out of nothing, and cry about it to the tiny corner of the internet who reads my blatherings. Sweet.

I feel growl-y

I'm missing a text book. It's a white binder with a crapload of articles in it. GRRRRRR. It better be in my car, or sommmmmebody's gonna getta hurt real bad.

I'm still slightly ahead of things in regards to school, except for the reading I should be doing which I can't because I have no textbook for my social theory class. How irritating.

Sooooo, I'm sleepy. Not much else new. My room is looking a little frazzled what with me at school all day and not caring about tidying it up completely, but it's still in damned good shape. Most of the stuff scattered around is going to school with me tomorrow.

I snapped a belt loop on my nice plaid pants. I'm annoyed. I think they're the most expensive piece of non-club clothing I own.

Leaves are cool. I'm not having as many issues with today being the Equinox as I thought I would. I am not a happy autumn/winter person...weird since my bday and Cmas are both in those seasons. And Hallowe'en. But I'm really not a fan, and my university is already REALLY cold, and there aren't many places to walk across campus and stay dry and newsflash: VANCOUVER IS WET. I may need to start...horrors...carrying a raincoat.

But not an umbrella. Because umbrellas are for tourists.

And now before I make absolutely zero sense, I shall sign off.

Monday, September 19, 2005

Oh yeah!

Arrrrrrrrrr....

I'm soooo tired.

I had my first group presentation today and I think we did really well. We met at university at 0730 this morning so now I'm completely exhausted. Whoosh.

I'm really cranky bitchy right now. I'm tired and frustrated about my inability to argue in a reasonable manner (argue as in have a discussion politely with dissenting views). I've still got 46 weeks of school left. I'm ahead of my readings and homework, but there's still. So. Much. To do. *sigh*

*/whine*

I released a couple more books into the wild today in various places around the university. This is way more fun than just giving them away. :)

Ok, now I'm gonna get all Hermione on my homework's ass and write a bunch of stuff so I might even get most of tomorrow off.

Don't forget...

Tomorrow is Talk Like A Pirate Day.

I'm doing a scrapbook/article thing and would like to interview some people. I've already asked a few bloggers with school aged children if I can use some of their posts (thanks Sheryl!) but if there's anyone out there who wants to send me some stuff they remember about their school experiences (good, bad, ugly, etc.) or about their kids' experiences, that'd be cool. kinkygrrl1701@yahoo.com or comment. Make sure you let me know how anonymous you want to be as well.

In other news...I am the goddess of stick figures. I love a program that in nearly every class the prof at SOME point says something like, "Now pretend you're a first grader." Yessssss...something that's not a stretch. I've done more colouring and drawing in the last two weeks than I have in the last couple months.

In other, other news...I want more non-caffiene laden diet pop. I'm pretty much out of Diet Sprite and diet grapefruit. I've got Diet Coke with lime, but I need more of both others and diet tonic water or something. I'd love a DCwL, but that's not condusive to me getting to sleep before REALLY late tonight, and my schedule for tomorrow looks like this...

0530 get up
0600 leave house
0630 get to Dave's
0730 get to school

...sleep is kind of required before midnight.

Damn, I'm tired...and it's not even eight. Only 46 more weeks of school to go!!

Saturday, September 17, 2005

Oh, the horror...

I've become one of THOSE people...it's not even 1030 and I'm going to bed.

The horror...

Who the crap has taken over my body?

I don't recognize me anymore. I have turned into a person who does her readings, answers all the review questions, tidies up before going to bed, cheerfully (well, kind of) gets up in the morning for class, goes to bed earlyish (grudgingly...some things haven't changed), puts all her books in her bag, prepacks her lunch and is generally insanely organized because SHE IS USING HER DAYTIMER.

What the crap?!

Well, SOMEONE likes me!

I just got my rejection letter from SFU teacher training. *snicker*

BA Announcement

BA Announcement, originally uploaded by Random Synapses.

So, what're you doing October 6th, around 0900? See above for what I'm doing. :) Anyone wanna come? Anyone? *crickets chirping* Huh. Can't say I blame you...it's my convocation and I don't really want to go. :) I'm sure it'll be fine, but SFU gets REALLY BLOODY COLD in October. I think I'll be wearing a parka under my gown.

I am losing my ever lovin' mind.

I'm taking so many courses, and they've all got similar names and similar topics...I think that I'm working on a project for one of them, and I'm not, or that we use a certain program and we're not...I'M SO CONFUSED!!!!!

Schooled.

Today was my third day of school...second day of actual classes. Most of the last three days are hazy because of sleep deprivation. I'm working with about twelve hours for the past three days, plus I've got a cold. The teaching program is set up so that I'll be going through the entire year with the same group of twenty people and I've already made four friends with whom I'm in groups with for all my classes *desperately hopes no one is flaky*. Everyone seems nice and non-flaky though...so we'll see. All of the classes have been really interesting so far. The profs are all fun, and the topics (even the ones I had doubts about [Principles of Teaching? Yikes.]) have been great.

I've managed to acquire a nickname within my group...Hermione from Harry Potter, because I've been ridiculously organized, to the point of having my textbooks in class when the instructors didn't know if they were in the bookstore or not. I've somehow managed to convince everyone that I'm a crazy superachiever. Muahaha! Now I just need to keep up the facade for the next 11 months or so and I shall be the awesome. I'm hoping that I keep going that way and if everyone stays convinced, I'll feel as though I've got to keep it up or else be mocked mercilessly. One of the guys has promised to do so if I start to fall behind.

So. Classes. I'm a little overwhelmed. For next week, I've got five pages of homework and around eighty pages of readings [edit: I forgot to factor in today's classes's readings. Eses. It's now up to nine chapters plus two articles at about thirty pages each], and I haven't even attended all my classes for the first time yet. I worked it out (probably shouldn't have...sometimes there is less fear in the unknown.) and it turns out that this semester I'm taking the time and work equivilent of eight or nine full time classes at SFU. The most I've ever taken in a semester was four, and that nearly killed me.

I'm bowing out of NaNoWriMo this year. Upon reflection of time and so on, I think my time would be better spent doing school stuff. It's annoying though. I was looking through the list of clubs today, and I've seen at least three I want to join...plus I want to rush (I think that's the term) for a sorority, just because...well, I told Dave that I had no interest in joining a sorority, but there were some CUTE girls walking around wearing Greek lettered t-shirts today. Oh, and academic excellence and peer support too... La la la.

Anyway, I need to get all my readings for Monday done tonight to prevent mocking, so there's my massive update. I have no idea when I'll update next, so see you when I do. :)

It's too EARLY!!!

I've already been up for an hour. I have done this three days in a row now. I have to do this for the next 11.75 months.

GAH!!!!!

Monday, September 05, 2005

OMG.

I'm just chatting with someone I haven't talked to in a while and casually said, "I'm starting the teaching program at *university* tomorrow."

HOLY FUCKING SHIT! I'M STARTING THE TEACHING PROGRAM AT *UNIVERSITY* TOMORROW!!!

The Saga of The Desk

This is my desk. I love it. It is the best desk EVAR.

This is so amazing I have to share. :) So, I went to Office Depot and this desk was $249.99 and the top part sold separately for $114.99. There happened to be an undamaged clearance set out front that were marked to 50% off, then down again so that the desk was $99 and the hutch was $54.04 (*shrug* I duuno why either). So, Dave and I are wandering around, measuring other desks, sitting at them...etc. I decide, yep. I like the one that's out there. So I find the manager (a really cute redhead). She happens to be on the phone and dealing with irate customers in front of her, so I wait very patiently until she tells me that she may be a while. "No problem. I just wanted to ask you a really quick question. There are a couple pieces of furniture out front that have been discounted a couple times already. I'd like to take them tonight, and I was wondering if you could do anything for me. One's a hundred and the other's fifty." I figured maybe I'd get ten bucks off or something. I figure that's lunch out somewhere, and if you don't ask, you can't receive, right?

"How about $70 and $40?"

*mind boggles*

So instead of over $400 (including tax) they wind up being $125 with tax, and we get 10% or something back at the end of the year. Then Dave pays for it as an anniversary present, so it cost me nothing. :D

This was umm...yesterday? So today I spent around six hours cleaning and organizing around the space it'll be going. (Yes, I have a messy room. No, I didn't hire a bulldozer. Yes, next time I'm going to.) Today Dave, Jeff and I put together the desk part (read: they put together the desk while I kept out of the way, make sure they had beverages, got the parts they needed and bought them dinner.) Tomorrow the hutch! Then my computer goes downstairs on it so I can surf porn do homework without my parents distracting me.

Fortunately I have no stories that "will be funny in a week" about us putting it together. No mashed toes, no falling apart of the desk, no falling apart of the Karin, nothin'. However, because EVERYTHING in my room is going to be moved, the entire contents of my bookshelf is now on my bed, making it difficult for me to sleep there tonight. So, I shall sleep in my absent brother's room tonight, and hopefully rearrange things tomorrow so that I have a place to sleep.

Thursday, September 01, 2005

Oh, gee. Look at the date.

"Now, the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do's and don'ts. First of all you're using someone else's poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing."

So, since I can't pick entire songs worth jack, I'll just snitch a bunch of song quotes. :) Also, then I can take lines out of context, although I tried not to do that. And for those of you playing along at home, I'll give you a cookie if you can ID the songs/artists (since most of the songs have the title in the lyrics.)and the above quote without using Google (obviously it's honour system [Cat, I owe you a cookie still.]).

Where have all the good men gone, and where are all the gods?
Where's the streetwise Hercules to fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a firey steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need.
I need a hero.

There's the man I chose.

Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime.
Say the word and I will follow you.
Share each day with me, each night, each morning.
Love me, that's all I ask of you.

Wake me up inside, wake me up inside.
Call my name and save me from the dark.
Bid my blood to run, before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I’ve become.

Every now and then I know you'll always be the only boy who wanted me the way that I am.
Every now and then I know there's no one in the universe as magical and wonderous as you.
Every now and then I know there's nothing any better and there's nothing I just wouldn't do.

You take me in, no questions asked
You strip away the ugliness that surrounds me.

I wanna fall and know that love has caught me,
Safe in the arms of love.

Kiss me in sweet slow motion.

I wanna hold you til I die, 'til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides.

I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy.
I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need.

I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

Still feels like our first night together.
Feels like the first kiss. It’s getting better, baby.

Late at night, when all the world is sleeping
I stay up and think of you.
And I still can't believe that you came up to me
And said, "I love you."
I love you, too.

I guess what I'm really trying to say through other people's words is "I love you Dave, happy anniversary and thank you for three wonderful years together."

(And for everyone else, I apologize for the mushy post. I'll be more angsty or something later to make up for it.)

Feeling groovy.

I found a cheque that I needed to pay off my Visa bill today. :D Yay! I've got space in my room and Operation: Get the Giant White Monster Desk Out Of My Room So I Can Have A Lovely New Inexpensive Desk is coming along nicely.

However, you know what annoys me? ... Well, yes, that does. But that's not what...ok, fine that too. Lots of things annoy me. Shut up now. I find it disproportionately annoying when I look at an ad and think "Ooh! Cute shoes!" or "I want that skirt/dress" only to find out that the ad is for the pantyhose. :p

In other news...I've been waiting for my books to arrive from the University bookstore. I've been stalking my front door, frightening the boy with the local paper when I wrenched the door open as he was putting it in the letter box. I want my books, dammit! I want to get a head start on reading them so that I can lie in bed and pretend to work while I take a nap.

Wow.

People I really care about aren't doing too well. I wish I could help them. Please email me or call me or something if you need me. I feel helpless just watching.

If you could comment with something happy or nice even if it seems inane I'd appreciate that. I need some happy thoughts.

Here, I'll even go first.

My hair looks really cute. Oh, and I'm doing really well with karate! :D And I'm tired in a not-sick-but-just-need-to-go-to-bed-after-I-get-some-juice kind of way.

To Do List And Desk Drawing

So much less panicky. The list got big when I started blogging it.

To do list.

Since school is starting in...ohmygod...seven days, and I don't plan on having any time for, well, anything...I have a bunch of stuff I need to get done before all hell breaks loose and crashes around my head...to mix my metaphors.

KARIN'S TO DO LIST (comment if you think I missed anything)
-write to do list
-break the ellipsis habit (these ... )
-clean bathroom, including ceiling corners (cobwebs! Ew!)
-investigate wiring ADSL down into my room
-empty large kids desk that has been in my room unused (except as a junk receptacle) for the last eight years.
-get kids desk that has been in my room unused for the last eight years (except as a junk receptacle) out of my room.
(aside: that desk has been a giant white elephant in my room...I rarely notice it except when I get really cranky that it's there, and USELESS AND HUGE!!!!)
-sort through boxes that just had crap thrown into them when we had the flood (and at other times, if I'm being completely honest...)
-move boxes into my closet, or otherwise get them the hell off my floor.
-take roughly 500 books to used bookstores, and/or bookcross them. (my username is CanadaGrrl)
-clean out car (since I'll be parking it in places for a long time all next year...places which are probably less safe than outside my house WHERE I STILL GOT BROKEN INTO)
-get neatly bagged popcans and bottles out of my room (I do well at getting them into the bags, now I need to get them out of the house and turned into money)
-hopefully I'll already have the space, but if not, rearrange furniture to fit a new, lovely, inexpensive desk.
-buy lovely, inexpensive desk (probably from Superstore) to replace the white monstrosity currently residing in my room.
-set up lovely, inexpensive desk
-move my computer down onto my lovely, inexpensive desk (I'm slightly enamoured of the idea of getting a new desk...not that I'm sure you'd notice at all)
-clean kitchen/studio and move the rest of the loose art supplies somewhere else.
-build this so that I become a fantastic student with my lovely, expensive new desk and fantastic armrest dealie. (bah, who'm I kidding? I'll be asking someone who's got mad wood skills to build it.)
-edit three previously written articles for SPIN and write two more that I've committed to writing.

Oh my god. Did I say there were only seven days left until school starts? *starts jibbering in panic*

I changed my mind...don't add any more things in the comments. Support in the form of chocolate, alcohol, chocolate alcohol and/or assistance in moving stuff or being the "What the hell are you keeping THAT for" person when I go through boxes will be gratefully accepted.

Holy crap.

It must be love.

I got spoiled rotten this weekend. :) We wound up not going to Pender (financial/me feeling like crap/etc.) and basically hung around Dave's place all weekend. Highlights of the weekend: Dave cutting and dyeing my hair (my mom: "You trust him to cut your hair? It MUST be love"), disc golf and me not getting bitten/stung by anything, plums and plum cake, teriyaki steak and stirfry and prawns, sleeping in, much cuddling, 24 (aka The Jack Bauer Power Hour), relaxing, visiting the Poke and family.

Now for the whining.

I have been sleeping SO MUCH lately. I feel nauseated a lot of the time, and when I'm not feeling sick I feel dizzy. My joints and muscles are aching most of the time. I was in town so I could've gone to karate, but I fell asleep and didn't make it. Dave tried to wake me up and I vaguely remember that, then going back to sleep. This is bad because I actually got up and walked around for a little while before foggily going back to sleep. (Foggily a word? Whatever.)

I'm going to the doctor this week. (Hello yearly female test...this is a reminder to the other six or so female bloggers whom I know who have it at the same time of year as I do) I'm going to talk to her about the tick bite (since I'm paranoid and it's not really disappearing the way that it should) and why on earth I feel like utter crap.

Pet fever

I get like this once in a while...I think it's when I'm ovulating. I need something soft and fuzzy to take care of. Usually this results in my drooling over puppies and kittens in a pet store, but refrain from buying anything because it wouldn't make much sense. I miss having my fish tanks up, but since I'll (please God) be moving out within a year it doesn't make sense to put them up, only to have to tear them down again to move.

However, my best friend has raised some society finches which are just the most adorable little birds. (Scroll down...the cute ones are at the bottom...they're fairly hideous as hatchlings) They have this sweet little call...it's like "prrrrrr...peep peep peep peep...prrrrrrr peep peep peep." They aren't that messy and they'll land on you when they fly around.

I want these little babies. They're just too adorable.

However, I'd need to clean the cage, and change the water and food, and let them fly around, and clean up after them when they poop all over the place, and vacuum up the seed they chuck around.

But it sounds like a good idea...

*uncrashed*

I feel sooooooo much better than I did yesterday.

*crash*

I still feel like I'm going to throw up. I'm shaking, and I've had a lump in my throat for most of the day. I thought that was a lame literary device to show someone was emotional. Apparently not.

Faith in humanity restored? Check.

Someone just called me saying that he found my disc that I lost last weekend (this would be the weekend with the wasp sting). Whee! I might even get it back in time to go to Pender this weekend.

Now, I must get off my ass (or stay on it, since I need to be at the computer) and arrange the rest of the weekend, so that we've got a place to go to.

Up, and down, and up, and down again.

Whee! Aren't mood swings FUN?!! :P

I'm on a low right now after being REALLY high for...wow...over a week. I crashed sometime last night, and I'm still feeling emotionally beaten up. Wow. :(

No fabulous title

I'm so jittery today, I feel like I'm going to throw up. Nothing huge is happening... I'm just feeling nervous. I hate this. I've been thinking, and that's never a good sign.

(insert snarky, annoyed, angsty remark here.)

I wish my stomach would settle the fuck down.

Thinking...

...my hair has gotten boring again.

Realizing...the last time I thought that, I had hot pink hair two days later.

From the annals of "Gee, why didn't I think of that."

Apparently disc golfing for four hours straight causes pain the next day. Ow. I think every joint is sore. My finger feels better...it's not as swollen or sore, but my hip feels like it's going to pop out of its joint. This is a recurring injury that I usually get during Ultimate season, but it seems to have stiffened up after yesterday.

Oh, and I have a sunburn on my upper chest where my tank top didn't cover. I managed to remember to put a little sunscreen on it yesterday, so it's more itchy than painful, but it's still annoying. :P I get to put lavender/peppermint (healing and cooling) oil on it and aloe (healing). Sticky and candy scented...that's me and my sheets. :P And NOT because of naughty activity either. :)

Correlation does not always mean causation.

So I wore bug repellent again while disc golfing...last time I did this I became dinner for a tick, and the time before that was when I was about ten. So this time I get stung by a wasp. On my finger which is on the hand that I throw with. For crying out loud! This was on the second hole and my drive was really great...before my disc had landed I got stung, and that was it. The next four hours was me throwing crappy throw after crappy throw with a swollen, numb and aching finger.

Then I lost a disc in the water. *sigh* Not my day. I need chocolate almonds. Fortunately I have chocolate almonds. *collapses into bed with a good book and said almonds*

Coolest thing I've done all month.

Yesterday before my karate lesson (UNDER SUPERVISION!), I broke a two inch thick concrete slab with my bare hand. That is all.

Friday, August 19, 2005

whoa...dizzy.

I did karaoke tonight, and apparently I'm pretty good...I got some compliments from people that I wouldn't expect it from. :D

I'm feeling dizzy and meyyah...some people were doing Bohemiam Rhapsody, so Dave and I were headbanging a la Wayne and Garth (I did a fabulous air guitar) and now my neck is all wobbly.

Sorry this post is "teh suxxor", but...well, my head is about to fall into my lap. Yeah.

I like karaoke much lots. And I wasn't even drunk!

So. Tired.

I babysat yesterday to today...and I'm exhausted. The kids were great (brother and sister, 12 and 10) and the pets were great too (1 year old cat, BIG golden retriever) but I don't sleep well in a new place and my allergies were acting up a bit.

Did anyone hear the RAIN last night? Holy smokes...I thought the sky was falling.

Checklist of stuff to do...
Three or four articles for SPIN. (One's done! One's being researched! [er...not right this second.])
Edit my FREAKING NOVEL. (5 pages done, many, many to go, although I've scribbled all over all of the pages now)
SLEEEEEEP. (yes. Off to take a quick nap before my SPIN meeting tonight.)

On the list of things that I didn't really want to do today...

...pull a tick out of my leg. (links below for search engine arrivals) Niiiiiice. So now of course, I'm looking through lists of tick-borne diseases. Great. :P Fortunately, it seems that Lyme Disease (the one I was worried about BEFORE I found a whole bunch of other ones) is only transmitted 36-48 hours after being bitten, and I was bitten about nine or ten hours ago when I was disc golfing. (I got a 33 and a 32 for each of the nine holes we played. 31's my best. In case you were wondering.) Anyway, in case anyone has arrived here from a search engine, here is a site with pictures (so NNY...don't click) of bugs and other creepies. For local British Columbians, here is a site from Victoria.

Also on my list of things I didn't want to do today...run out of gas! Yay me! So, since bad things are supposed to come in threes, is my bed going to collapse when I lie down on it tonight? *snark*

Cookie for who knows what this is from.

Justy and Bimkins are out of the running. :P

*sings in very high pitched voice*
"o/~ Doooom!! Doom, doom doom, doomdoomdoooooooom!!! o/~"

(SIX MONTHS LATER)

"o/~ Doom, doom dooooomdoom doom. o/~ The end. Hey, what's that? *looks out at Earth from the space ship*"

Political post.

So I heard from Bimkins that Christopher Walken is running for President in 2008. Interesting, assuming it's not a hoax. I don't follow politics or Hollywood very much (except Jennifer Garner. I'm slightly obsessed with Jennifer Garner.)

Looking around the site, I find I'm not a fan of the quote in the upper right hand corner of the index, "If you want to learn how to build a house, build a house. Don't ask anybody, just build a house." I suppose it could be interpreted two ways. To learn how to do something, just do it. But I think that it wastes a lot of time to jump into something without asking how to do it!

He has some good, if vague ideas, but since he's only proclaimed his intentions a few days ago it will probably get better.

Whee!

My dresser is together, my clothes are in it, my closet is slowly being emptied, my old dresser is out of my room and holding plants and art supplies next to my easel in the rec room.

And I figured out how to post pictures from flickr. Sweeeeeeeeeet.

Bask in the adorableness that was/is me, and gaze in awe at how blonde I was when I was a kid.

BigKarin

My mom took this picture of me yesterday.

LittleKarin

LittleKarin, originally uploaded by Random Synapses.

This is a picture of my that my mom took of me when I was four. Same house, within three metres of where the first picture was taken. I'm even holding a flower with my right hand in both. I swear, we didn't know about that.

Wednesday, August 10, 2005

Why am I like the dresser in my room?

Because neither of us are completely together. Ba dum dum.

I got a dresser from Ikea today, and it's about halfway finished. My back hurts.

Tuesday, August 09, 2005

I swear I won't do this too much...

...but I have to give a KoL update...since Kit isn't online. :P On to the weird stuff that very few will understand.

I bought my store (Krystal's Fine Wares) for 50k meat, saw someone had put 9 hellion cubes for sale at 100 meat each, bought them all, sold them for 4500 meat each and made back almost what I paid for my store in less than an hour. I bought a hellion cube and sent it to the player who bought it all, who then made me a hell ramen and sent me an eye-pod for my gravy fairy! *claps hands*

And yes. I intentionally wrote the above so that those who aren't in the know have NO IDEA WHAT I'M ON ABOUT! HA! Take that all you World of Warcraft people (hi Donna!).

Friday, August 05, 2005

Holy crap, a post.

It's times like this that I feel fortunate to not be as popular as Dooce or some of the other people on my blogroll. If they'd left writing for as long as I had, their mailbox would be full of "ARE YOU DEAD?!?!?!" emails. *checks mailbox and a moth flies out of it* So, what up? You guys don't care? ;)

Last weekend Daveand I went to Seattle for the World Freestyle Frisbee Championships. It was really cool...kind of like watching rhythmic gymnastics in pairs with a disc or two. We also managed to play a 19 hole disc golf course in Lake Stevens (MUCH FUN) and five holes in Bellingham before it got too dark. I ate the great Amarrrican food of Taco Bell and Jack in the Box. Did you know you could get an egg roll at Jack in the Box?!?! Why was I not informed of this?! It's good stuff! I got a mild sunburn on my shoulders for the first time in a few years...normally I'm careful and/or lucky. I usually just get some burn on my face. Of course, even though it was mild I whined about it, but I got to mix up some magic healing oil (5 drops lavender, 2 drops peppermint, 2 drops sandalwood topped up with about 3 mL [40 drops or so] sweet almond oil)

I dyed my hair a couple days ago...it was supposed to be bright red, but it was more dark burgandy since I was a dope and forgot to strip out the other dyes first. Also, it didn't take on my roots, so I had two inch brown roots. Classy. Last night I stripped it all out, so now I have hot magenta locks, with two inch blonde roots. Tonight is the application of the orange/red dye. Sometimes I wonder what my hair is made of that it doesn't all break off.

Other than that, I've been cleaning my room, playing Kingdom of Loathing (characters are Krystal_Bandh and KarintheGreat), doing laundry, drinking copious amounts of Diet Coke, playing Ultimate and disc golf, helping with kids karate, walking around my new university so I know where the hell everything is and so on. It's a good life.

(I JUST LOST MY ENTIRE POST BUT RECOVERED IT...HOLY CRAP.)

Oh, Dave and I are thinking of going camping on Pender Island sometime this August...there's a disc golf course there, and we're thinking of entering the BC Provincial Disc Golf Championships...which is being held on Pender September 17-18. We figure we'd better practice first rather than going in cold. Anyone interested in going camping? You can disc golf or not, but we'll be going twice for sure (Saturday/Sunday).

Saturday, July 30, 2005

Wow...does this remind anyone of anyone?

Normally I'm not this bad, but I've been known to forget to sleep or eat on occasion.

Timestamp

Lookit that...I'm awake at 0930 on a Sunday. You can't see it, but I'm even dressed and ready to go out and play disc golf (except that I haven't had breakfast). I've got my karate gear ready for later in the day, I didn't need an alarm and I've actually been pretty much fully awake since before nine. I'm all freaked out, yo.

This is for Kit.

Found this via Donna.

Internet Police Scanner?

Alternatively, could someone please listen in on a scanner for me? Or tell me where I can get one at 12:22 in the morning?? There's been a chopper circling my neighbourhood with a search light for about the last half hour or forty five minutes and I'm starting to get a little weirded out.

Edit 12:33 : The helicopter's gone...the radio says that they were "looking for someone". Thanks. That was pretty much totally useless. :P Maybe I'll know more later.

Why didn't anyone make me listen to emo music before?

It's pretty neat...even if what I heard seemed to be a generation relabelling "soft rock" or "power ballads" to fit a new image. (Please comment politely if I'm wrong, nice emo googlers...) Whatever. I'm not the right person to talk about music genres. Music to me falls under three headings: Stuff I Like, Stuff I Don't Like (aka "rap" and "Celine Dion") and Stuff I Haven't Heard Yet. Ok, fine...stuff breaks down into other categories too, I suppose. Stuff To Work Out To, Background Music, The Crap That Kid Down The Block Plays All Fricking Day, Phantom of the Opera and Other. But seriously...

Reader Poll: What radio station do you listen to usually? (if you're not from Vancouver, let me know what genre it is. :P) If I'm not listening to my lovely Rio (thank god, I've got it back in my car now that the car is fixed.) generally I listen to 93.7 JRFM or 107.9, both of which are country, but if there's commercials on both or one is really static-y, I'll switch (in this order) to 96.9 JackFM (playing lots of stuff, but I like the '80s stuff mostly), Rock 101.1 (classic rock), 99.3 Fox (harder rock), Z95.3 (only in case of emergency...I muchly dislike rap, and there's a lot of it on there)

On my Rio there is a heavy emphasis on soundtracks (I have four versions of Phantom...it's a sickness.), country and New Age-y stuff.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Now for a present...allow me to present you with my acceptance letter for the September 12 month intake! Oh, and the bill for $11,000.

YAY!!!!!!

I'm really tired now though. I've been doing happy dances around my house for the last half hour.

Thursday, July 21, 2005

Tentative, VERY good news.

I may need to be buying one year's worth of teaching textbooks for September. *keeps fingers crossed*

Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Sooooooo...hi.

I've been around. I've been online. I've been busy offline...I just haven't been doing anything writeworthy that I haven't mentioned before.

Gardening, karate, dealing with school drama, listening to music, taking photographs, tutoring, painting, Ultimate, gardening some more, hanging out with Dave, reading Harry Potter 6...that's about it. I haven't even really been to any movies lately, although I rewatched Fifth Element a couple days ago...definitely in my top five movies of all time.

I have cramps. :( I also have home made sweet and sour pork. :)

So that's about it. It's exciting to me, not really anyone else. I'll let you know if anything wild and wonderful happens.

Friday, July 15, 2005

Better now.

So, it turns out that I'll be spending $300 to fix my passenger lock. That's ok though. I'm pretty much good now. :)

I did a ton of gardening yesterday. I had a betony aster(?) to remove, which was this horrendous tangle of roots and branches and whippy leafy branches and yikes. It took me over two hours to clear away a patch of ground less than two square metres, and I'm not even finished yet. There's still a ton of roots to get rid of. The stuff was so compact that I had a pile of debris more than a cubic meter sitting on the lawn. I swear it was like undoing a Gordion knot, and I dealt with it in much the same way. On a totally related note, thank you Dave for the loan of the shears and sharpening my hedge clippers. *thumbs up*

I've mostly been gardening, reading and editing. (NO NOVEL SPOILERS, DAVE!! KEEP READING!!!) I've finished the first rough edit of my novel from last November, and will probably be starting to type it up either Sunday or Monday. Dave's only been waiting for...nine months since I finished it...to read it. Although he had to suffer through nearly two months of my planning it. If anyone would like to be my second editor, let me know and if I (even kinda) know you, I'll send you a virtual copy. :) It's not nearly as horrendous as I remember parts of it being, and other parts are so cringeworthy that I put giant brackets around them and wrote in big red letters FIX THIS! LAME! BAD! Most of that is dialogue...I definitely need to work on that.

Wednesday, July 13, 2005

Dear whoever broke into my car last night, popping the passenger side door lock, stealing less than $10 in change and my marble egg and dumping my Ultimate bag behind a lamp post,

I hope you eat shit and die. Oh, and I took out a $300 camera and an envelope of nearly $500 cash out of my car two days ago, so FUCK YOU.

Tuesday, July 12, 2005

Hands of VELCRO!

Yay! We won both Ultimate games tonight... 14-12 and 14-13, and I scored the winning point for the first game! That's the first time I've ever scored the winning point (Dave begs to differ, but I'm pretty sure I'm right...)

So now I'm sore. :P But I feel pretty good. :)

Paranoia

So I called Admissions and got things sorted out. I'm probably not going to get into the 1 year program, but I've applied for the two year. *sigh* I've also removed and edited any reference to specific schools that I might be going to...since Dave got me all paranoid. :)

Oh well. Whatever happens, happens. Damn, but I am profound today. Maybe I'll sell a t-shirt with that on it. :P

Monday, July 11, 2005

Writing update

Last night I roughly edited 90 pages of my novel. For those of you just tuning in, I wrote a 50,000 word novel last November in NaNoWriMo, in thirty days. Dave was commenting on it in his blog, and this is what I wrote in response.

NaNoWriMo is kind of like breaking up for thirty days, except that I got hot chocolate, encouragement, snacks and blankets brought to me while I mostly ignored you. So it was kind of like I broke up with you for thirty days and you were still acting the same. ;)

Next...I am published! I have an article in the BCDSS Summer 2005 newsletter. :D I did have two articles submitted, but one of them was "cut" due to "space restrictions" *does the sarcastic finger quotes*. Damn editors. (just kidding! :) ). The article is online here and I'm on page 8. I mean, read the whole thing, but the really important stuff is on page 8. ;)

More School Drama

I BROUGHT DOWN THAT LETTER FOR YOU SO THAT IT WOULDN'T GET LOST IN THE MAIL. DON'T FUCKING TELL ME THAT IT'S NOT ANYWHERE AROUND! DON'T TELL ME THAT YOU SENT ME A LETTER *IN JUNE* TELLING ME THAT YOU NEEDED ME TO CONFIRM THAT I WAS A CANADIAN CITIZEN! I HATE YOU I HATE YOU IHATEYOUIHATEYOUIHATEYOUIHATEYOUIHATEYOU!

*deep breath* Ok. I feel better.

Pondering again.

It's amazing how simply stating a fact to someone can affect them so much. I would like to suggest that you tell a friend that you love them, because you never know how much it may mean to them, because even though you know it, they might not...and besides, it's always nice to hear.

Pondering...

Was it wrong of me to teach six children how to play Ultimate with a Pride disc that has the PumpJack icon on it (gay leather bar)? (it was a subtle icon)

Yeah, I didn't think so either.

TEACHING MOMENT.
Me: Descend means go down. What's another way of saying descend?
Kid: Go down.
Me: Good. Listen. The miners descended in the shaft. What's another way of saying that sentence?
Kid: The miners went down on the shaft.

Oh my God. I thought I'd throw up from trying so hard not to laugh. Honestly...what was the author THINKING with that sentence?!

Eleventy Billion Dozen Roses

Dave woke me up this morning (a Herculean task, if ever there was one) and dragged my protesting butt out of bed. And the rest of me too. He got me to quit complaining when he told me that we were going to a garden store. *GLEE* Seriously...kid/candyshop. :D So we went off and he took me directly towards the rose bushes. *DOUBLE GLEE* I love roses, but I hate getting bouquets of them because I don't like to watch them die.

So we wandered around for about an hour through the rose bushes and we came up with a choice of four gorgeous ones, but I couldn't make up my mind. I wanted to take a look at vegetable plants quickly, so I went there for a few minutes to think about which one I wanted. When I found Dave again, he'd put all FOUR of them on the trolley!! THANK YOU SWEETIE!!!! Pictures will follow when I take them.

I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!ONE!!111!!ELEVEN!!111!! *EEEEE!* *poing* They smell SO GOOD! I'm going to plant them in large containers so I can take them with me when I move. :D!!!

Top Notch, Double Delight, Perfect Moment, Glowing Peace are the four kinds. I'll link to them later as well, but for now we're off to a Canada Day BBQ and perhaps disc golf.

*waves a maple leaf*

Happy Canada Day!

Why I wish real life were like a computer.

When I'm confused as to where my $400 mp3 player has gone, I simply gooogle it, or ask Jeeves. Of course, this may lead to annoying problems. *Search string: "Where is my RIO?" "On a bus heading downtown."* Eep. I think it's in my room somewhere... which leads to another thing I'd like. "Clean desktop/room" and everything gets organized. If I don't want stuff around right then, I stick it all in a folder and it doesn't take up that much room.

I'd also like to be able to ignore people, especially in bars...just walk away from them while they're talking, then come back in twenty minutes. "Sorry...I crashed. Hey, I've got to go." Then hang a sign around your neck that says "Offline". *thumbs up* I could definitely use the "ignore" key. Either that or click that red X on their forehead, and they're completely out of the room.

I've been doing a lot of reading about herbs 'n' stuff lately, but it'd sure be nice to have a CTRL-F (find) function. Hit CTRL-F and the book you'd just read that bit in would light up, then open to the right page and highlight the relevant section.

It would also be great when I was knitting. Right now I'm making a freaking huge piece of fabric that will eventually turn into a cloak. How cool would it be to just "copy" "paste" each row, since they're all the same?!

And UNDO! My God...can you imagine the uses for the undo key in real life? You accidentally (or on purpose, but have second thoughts) back up into another car? CTRL-Z. Just cussed in front of your SO's parents on the first time you met them? CTRL-Z. Realized that you locked your keys in the car? CTRL-Z.

Save would be good too, for those mistakes that take more than a single "undo" to fix. Just jump back to the last save point, and that whole awful date is POOF. Or you could "Save As", then revisit that amazing sunset as many times as you'd like.

Favourites. You'd never get stuck in rush hour again. Just favourite your house, friend's houses, work and a couple places you like to hang ou. Instant jumping around the city.

Pop-up blockers. Can you imagine what it'd be like without all the ads that we have in the world? Poof, they all go.

Take the MIT Weblog Survey

Thursday, June 23, 2005

Blah de blah.

Updated my blogroll. I think I've got all the blogs that I normally read on there now.

I'm writing some articles for SPIN, the BCDSS (British Columbia Disc Sport Society. Got that? Good.. I don't want to type it all out again.) newsletter.

I'm still not feeling 100%, but I'm finished with the evil antibiotics of ultimate DOOM.

I'm helping a friend move into his new apartment tomorrow. Tonight, he should be in town and there will be much some drinking perhaps. Or perhaps we will just frighten friends who didn't know that he's moving here. I love frightening people with good news. :D

I want to be out in my garden. :P It's nice out.

BREAK TIME!

Ironic

Someone just did a Yahoo Search and found my site based on the search string 'cheery thoughts'. Based on my posts the last few weeks...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Tuesday, June 21, 2005

Oh yeah...

With the ranting of the below post, I forgot to wish everyone a happy Midsummer. I celebrated by working in the garden...and with garlic and vinegar. (thanks Donna! it seems to be working!)

If I could smell myself, I think I'd be remincisent of salad dressing.

Whee! (sarcasm!)

Random Synapses: now with nesting footnotes.

Still sick. Feeling better...kinda.

Ooh! I have another side effect from the antibiotics! Bad taste in the mouth. Small side effect? Well, yes, compared to uncontrollable vomiting or diarrhea (neither of which I have. *knocks on wood*) but imagine please, the flavour of ear wax* in your mouth ALL THE TIME unless I've just eaten or drank something. Even chewing gum didn't help, since the gum began taking on the flavour. Gah! As you can imagine, this has wreaked some havoc with my eating habits(everyone who knows me commences laughing at the idea that I have eating habits.). Since the only refuge is eating, I'm finding that I'm snacking a lot more. :P Of course, it's not gonna be fruit or crackers or something healthy. Nope, nor will it be water or juice. That'd make FAR too much sense, and if you've read any of my archives, or know me, sense probably isn't what most people associate with me.

*If you must know how I know what ear wax tastes like**, allow me to give you two words. Nail. Biting. Since I was old enough to get a finger in my mouth without poking myself in the eye, I've had the dubious pleasure of learning what many substances taste like.

**Kind of like dandylion "sap" (milk?). REALLY FREAKING BITTER, if you don't know what THAT tastes like.

Dear Internet,

Once upon a time, there was a movie called Batman Begins.

Go see it.

The End.

My least favourite side effect of antibiotics.

Candida.

Gawdammit.

I don't think beauty is an emotion...but ok...

You Are Beauty
You are Beauty.

You are beautiful, whether it be on the inside, the
outside, or both. People are drawn to you as
strongly as you are drawn to the beauty in the
world around you.

Update

Still feel "gah". I'm on a round of antibiotics which are making me dizzy and nauseated and don't seem to be doing anything for the cold yet.

Saw my little brother today. He's on the cruise ships for another month, then he gets a month off and then is off to Europe and the Mediterranian. Anyway, Monday is his 21st birthday.

Geez. I got nothing. I'm going back to bed.

More whining? GAH.

Man, if *I'm* sick of hearing myself, how must everyone around me feel? It's ten to eight and I've pretty much been awake since five...I went to sleep around...330 or so? something like that. Cripes. Has anyone else had one of those nights where you SWEAR you've been asleep for a couple hours, turn your head to check the clock and realize that it's only been about two and a half minutes? Yeah...that was me last night/this morning. Now if only I was rested in the same way...I would've had sixty seven hours of sleep. :D (how awesome would THAT have been?)

I guess I might as well go do laundry or something, since I need to get up in an hour for my doctor's appointment. AND since I finished my last Diana Gabaldon book last night. That would be five books. In just over a week. Over 800 pages EACH. I knew I read pretty fast, but I've never devoured a series like this. And now I have to wait until September for the next book to come out. :(

The amusing thing (to me at least) is that there's some serious Scottish dialect in them, so I'm fighting with myself not to talk like the characters (or write like them). My main interaction over the last week has been with a six foot four, red headed fictional Highlander, so I shouldn't really be surprised. :P After spending a month in Scotland a few years ago I had a little bit of an accent. Heck, after chatting with an Aussie or a Brit for more than ten minutes, I'll start picking up the accent. I think it might be easier to do that with writing though, because I'm a fairly visual person and...obviously...when reading, you're looking at the words.

I'm curious now though. I think I'll pick up the audio book from the library to see how they do the various dialects. The protagonist is English and of course there's the red headed Highlander, but there's also a bunch of other nations mixed in there too. Hmmmm..

Anyway, if I call you a "clot heid" anytime in the next couple days, you know where I got that from, aye? (Scottish for 'eh')

OK, FINE.

I'm STILL sick, and it seems to be getting worse, so I'm skipping kids karate, resting and I've got a doctor's appointment for tomorrow at 9:40. Ok? Ok. Bleah. I hate going to the doctors...not because of the doctor or anything...I just hate making appointments. :P

Mutant Mint!

(thanks Jason for the title)

I'm still/again sick. I started coughing yesterday and pretty much haven't stopped. I'm trying not to take too much medicine for it this time...overall I feel pretty good, and I did spend the last two weeks drugged (and cross drugged) so I'm going the more natural route... also known as "cough until it's time for bed, then drink Neocitran". I'm currently drinking some iced Mutant Mint tea...a special "blend" of mint leaves taken from my garden that have gone wild (MINT GONE WILD!!!) and I SWEAR they taste different than they did the first year I planted it.

Here's the recipe I used. You'll notice how very exact it is...
1) Pull several mint plants out of the ground, cursing because they're all over the place now. (Note to readers: if you plant them in the garden...even for two months...they WILL NEVER LEAVE.)
2) Decide not to chuck them back into the garden, because they're like zombie plants...you have to burn them to kill them. Oh. And it's a waste too. (I'm kidding...I didn't plan to throw them away.)
3) Strip the nice looking leaves off the stems and wash them. Stick them in an eight cup glass measuring cup and crush them a bit with a metal spoon (don't smash them too much or else the chlorifil gets out and makes it taste like grass). I suggest metal and glass because plastic and wood might take up the mint smell.
4) I had about a fistful of mint leaves. Fill up the measuring cup with boiling water, mix the leaves around a bit, cover, and leave for about ten minutes.
5) Strain the leaves and toss them, or put them in the compost...whatever. Drink some of it while it's hot and refrigerate the rest.

I'm not a political person...

I mean, I vote. I try to get other people to vote, etc, but I don't have a political blog. I don't even really mention much in the way of politics. However, here's a chance to vote on something important...the same sex marriage issue. I don't know how much good it will do, but I'm sure that it won't do any harm.

The site.

Me listen? Not likely.

This is from a comment I left on Donna's blog.

I've been sick for more than three weeks. Coughing et al. Have I seen a doctor, like people suggested? No. Have I taken Buckley's, like my dad suggested? HELL no. Have I sucked it up, dosed myself with multiple, sleep causing "don't drive heavy machinery" stuff and gone and lived my life mostly the way that I would've if I were well? Yep.

Would I have been better by now if I'd followed everyone else's advice?

Ummm...probably.

In other news, my favourite used bookstore is gone. Gone with 130 of my books that I traded in for credit. I've still got $70 in credit there. BAKA DENAI! (I don't know the spelling, but apparently that's Japanese for a very bad name.)

DAMN you Hawkins!

*shakes fist* I'm sitting here covered in orangy yellow cheez powder from my crunchie Cheezies. Yum, but yuck all at the same time.

Dave and our friend Walter and I went to see Mr. and Mrs. Smith last night. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Yum. Anyway, the premise (they're both spies for different companies who get married not knowing that the other is a spy as well) seems awfully weird, and it could've been done really poorly, but OH MY GOD. It was SO funny, especially since the script was written with cliche "couple" conversation which meant something totally different when referring to their spying lives.

One exchange:

Mr. Smith: So how many have you done? (he's referring to body count, not "body" count)
Mrs. Smith: *mumbles something about not wanting to go there* Um, how about you?
Mr. Smith: Oh, well you know. I don't really keep track, but I'd say more than fifty, less than sixty. So you see, sweetheart, I've been around the block a few...
Mrs. Smith: Three hundred and twelve.
Mr. Smith: *dead silence* How could you...
Mrs. Smith: Some were two at a time.

So, anyway, go and see it. Dave and I tried to see it on Friday, but it was sold out. Honestly, when does a 10:50 movie sell out? When it isn't Star Wars I mean...you can put your hands down now.

Pondering:

Why did La Vie En Rose send me an email entitled "Father's Day Specials"? Do they know something about my dad that I don't? Perhaps he is a cross dresser? Or is this for my mom? Or perhaps I'm supposed to buy something for the father of the children that I don't have? Hmmm...

Smashed up tree fibre.

As you may or may not know (and/or care) I also write in a paper journal which I keep beside my bed to taunt those unfortunate enough to venture into the evil disaster which is my room. Anyway, last night was the six month mark of when I started writing in it daily. I have only missed about three days in that time frame, so I'm pretty impressed with myself. :)

For Sale

2002 Saturn SL-1-My friend Bill's moving here from Edmonton and he's selling his car. It's a purdy car. I've ridden in it.

Inexpensive sex toys, lotions and potions. I'm getting out of the dildo schlepping business, and am selling off my stock. The lotions have only been touched by individual Q-tips, and the toys are clean (obviously...I mean otherwise...ew.). Let me know if you're interested.

Grrr.

I don't know what's wrong with me these days. It feels like pretty much everything and everyone irritates me. *snark* I'll watch the news and get irritated by something idiotic. I'll see a commercial, and want to put my fist through the TV. At the same time, I'll see a dog or a baby and start to tear up. ARGH.

I think it's to do with being sick for the last...13 days. Ye gods. I'm finally feeling better. I was a little worried yesterday...I was getting better, then I ran around in the rain for three hours playing Ultimate, and tried to cough up a lung on the sidelines. I woke up this morning afternoon and felt really good.

Being sick has also had the added detriment of not wanting to/being able to see most of my friends, or do anything active without being REALLY GRUMPY the whole time.

But, I'm finally feeling better, even if my voice is STILL husky.

Anger inducing letter and phone call.

To: Karin
From: Teacher Training

Dear Karin,
Thank you for your application...blah blah blah. You have applied to this and that...blah blah blah. Please send Final Official Transcript From Other University. *SCREECHING HALT* HUH?! We have received a transcript with grades to Fall 2004. No shit. That's when I last took courses. Please forward another official transcript AFTER you convocate as your degree and date conferral will not appear until then.

Please send missing items...blah blah blah.

Thank you,
Education Admissions.

So I made the phone call to the Admissions office. Basically, I need to have a degree to be in the program. I *HAVE* my degree, but I never did the cap 'n' gown thing, nor do I hold the piece of paper that says "Hey, you've got a BA in Pretentious English" (which is going to be the title of my shelf of English textbooks...but I digress). So I need to have that piece of paper, although I've already got WAY more than enough credits to have my BA. This pisses me off because I'm still kind of working towards getting a minor or three...meh.

So, I now need to get a note from a faculty advisor saying that yes, I have all the credits necessary, and yes, I'm convocating in October.

Oh. By the way. I'm convocating in October. Cap, gown and all. Ugh.

New Experience

Today I'm going out to look at an apartment. Not for me...for a friend of mine who's in Edmonton and can't be out here to look at it himself. So it's like a dry run for me. I've never gone out looking for an apartment to rent before. Weird.

*whisper*

I have almost no voice again. Two hours of yelling and directing children in a large echo-y gym will do that to you. Well...me, anyway. The meet was great though. I had a lot of fun, the kids did well, and stuff. The adults performed, but I didn't feel confident enough to do it, so I stayed sitting and helped keep kids quiet. I'm really glad I listened to my discomfort at performing and hope that it isn't a sign of stage fright (anyone who's ever heard me sing karaoke is going "YES! Please let her have stage fright!").

I tried to make it to the Ultimate Frisbee BBQ, but it was over by the time I got there. :( But I got to go out for dinner with Dave and some of our teammates, so that was nifty. We're going camping in a few weeks. :D No one knows where yet though...

So, I have Mars Bar ice cream, and the movie version of "Mists of Avalon", Elfwood is back up, and life is pretty darned good.

*snark*

Whist tutoring, I had a grumpy post in progress. However, my boss came in while I was typing it, so I closed the window and lost the post. I'm still tired, still sick-ish, still feeling blah, but I'm generally feeling better.

So, yay.

Oh, and MORE PEOPLE NEED TO POST! Seriously. Don't MAKE me expand my blogroll, yo.

Thursday, June 02, 2005

Ok, that's it.

The website that hosts my gallery crashed again. Fuggedaboudit. I'm gonna try Deviant Art or something. *grumblesnark* I LIKED Elfwood, though. :P

So, over the last couple of hours I've been googling with search strings in order to answer such burning questions as "are there big yucky insects in trinidad" and "is it possible to find non-spicy food in tobago". Burning, I tell you. Burning.

I have learned when Carnivale is though. So that's nifty neato.
